DeWitt County Farm Bureau, a 61 year-old Texas Farm Bureau County Farm Bureau, conducted a successful annual convention and celebrated its 60th anniversary of continuous membership gain on September 5 at the Bar-B-Que Station in Cuero.
DeWitt County Farm Bureau hosted its membership, past presidents of DCFB, visitors from surrounding County Farm Bureaus, guest speaker TFB President Kenneth Dierschke, past District 12 Director Arthur Bluntzer and present District 12 Director Russell Boening and their wives and District 12 Field Operations Director Don Sugarek.
“DeWitt County Farm Bureau’s goal is to support agriculture. It has been successful in this endeavor and has increased membership in each of the past 60 Years,” stated DeWitt County Farm Bureau President Tom Batts.
DeWitt County Farm Bureau hosts an annual county convention each year. At this convention, the membership is provided minutes of the past years annual convention, an income statement, a president’s report, proposed DCFB resolutions and the opportunity to propose resolutions, a report of the status/election of the DCFB Board of Directors, an introduction of the students participating in the TBF Leadership Conference and other persons participating in DCFB-sponsored activities and a comprehensive Power Point slide show presentation with photos of the past years activities and events.
“We honored our 2009 Pioneer Award Nominee (and Sweetheart), the late Georgia Haun, a longtime friend and supporter of DeWitt County Farm Bureau. Her family accepted a granite heart-shaped plaque recognizing her faithful service and dedication,” Batts noted.
Past presidents of DeWitt County Farm Bureau were presented a plaque honoring their service to DeWitt County Farm Bureau and their contributions to the 60 Years of Continuous Growth.
The guest speaker was Texas Farm Bureau President Kenneth Dierschke. President Dierschke arrived after traveling with Kay Bailey Hutchinson during most of the day, announcing Texas Farm Bureau’s support for her in the Texas Governor’s race. Dierschke congratulated DCFB for it’s 60 years of continuous gain and invited DCFB Directors to a dinner later this year to honor this impressive accomplishment.
He provided insight into Texas Farm Bureau’s positions on the impact of the elimination of the “navigable water” phrase in the Clean Water Act, Cap and Trade legislation and its effects on agriculture producers, goals of the Humane Society of the USA pertaining to agriculture and other current legislation and actions that directly affect agriculture producers.
Dierschke urged attendees to read their place mats as they contained information concerning the Protect Private Property program, Proposition 11 on the November 3rd ballot, encouraged them post them in the windows of local businesses to raise awareness of this important proposition and to vote YES November 3rd on Proposition 11.
During last year’s American Farm Bureau Convention in San Antonio, American Farm Bureau Federation President Bob Stallman recognized DeWitt County’s 59 years of continuous membership growth during the AFBF President’s Dinner. He challenged the membership to signal if any of them had more than 59 years of continuous membership gain. None of the attendees indicated there were others with 59 years or longer gains and Stallman proclaimed that DeWitt County Farm Bureau has the longest continuous membership gain in the U.S.A.
