Cuero City Council has named Raymie Zella as this city’s new Interim City Manager. Prior to the appointment, he was Cuero’s Public Works Director.
Zella is from Gonzales and is married to Dorothy who works for GVEC . The Zella’s have two boys, Braxton age 16 and Zachery age 11.
He was employed with the City of Gonzales for over 33 years, with the last 16 as the public works director. He stated, “I’ve had the opportunity to work at other cities, but chose not to until the position in Cuero came open. I had told my wife for several years that if something ever came open in Cuero, I would really consider it.”
After he was chosen for Cuero’s top city position, Zella noted, “I was glad to have been chosen for the job. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to be so welcomed by everyone from Cuero. From the employees to everyone I have met. I really did not expect to be in the position I’m in right now.”
“As Interim City Manager, the plan is to steer the ship until Council decides what direction they want to go with this position. We have already had a couple of staff meetings with the department heads and set goals and things that we want to accomplish. I have stressed to all of the employees that we work for the citizens of Cuero and to treat all citizens with the utmost respect. The City of Cuero has a great group of employees. Having these employees makes my job a lot easier,” he said.
“My family and I have been looking at houses in Cuero. If needed, we may have a dual residence for a while, until our boys become more accustomed to the Cuero Green. My dream house would be to sit on the back porch and watch the deer roam around. We have brought our boys to Cuero many times to ride around and look at houses and some homes get them more excited than others. We love the outdoors,” Zella added.
Zella served on the Little League board in Gonzales for many years and is currently the CYFL area representative for Gonzales.
