How much plastic can the Cuero area collect for recycling? That is what Keep Cuero Beautiful wants to know.
“Put plastic in its place - it all comes back to you” will be observed here Nov. 17-20.
Starting with that project, residents are encouraged to save No. 1 and No. 2 type plastic bottles and containers and take them to Cuero Recycling Center. City of Cuero will have a special dumpster at the Recycling Center to collect plastic for this event and it will be there until it is full or through the end of the year, whichever comes first.
Cuero and its surrounding schools are getting involved in this project and are holding a number of contests.
Also civic clubs are being contacted to collect plastic and take it to the recycle center.
There will be a “Put plastic in its place” display at Millies on Main to promote the project.
Cuero Mayor Randy Saenz has issued a proclamation naming Sunday, Nov. 15 as Texas Recyles Day in Cuero.
Keep Cuero Beautiful is participating in this statewide public awareness campaign to promote the environmental and economic benefits of recycling plastics.
There is a contest between Meyersville, St. Michael’s and Westhoff schools to see which school can collect the most plastic.
At Hunt Elementary each grade is collecting plastic and the one that gets the most weight will get a coke or ice cream party.
Cuero Intermediate School has involved its science and art classes in the project. Cuero High School students will be collecting plastic containers at Friday’s football game at Gobbler Stadium.
Cuero Interim City Manager Raymie Zella explained the city is investigating ways it can start collecting plastic at the center to be recycled. He said the city is attempting to find a way to use the equipment it has now to bundle the plastic products.
Currently Cuero Recycling Center recycles cardboard and metal.
