Cuero City Council met for a little over two hours last week covering a 28 item agenda.
Earlier this year City Council approved an ordinance to create a Substandard/Dilapidated Structures Commission in an effort to remove deteriorated buildings in Cuero.
At last week’s meeting, Council named seven members and one alternate for that board. The members will include Michael Weaver, Jim Hedrick, Paul Hassfield, Leslie Lucas, Benford Friar, Robert Kuhn, and Todd Humphreys. The alternate member will be Wallace Beck.
This commission will meet in the near future to determine a plan for identifying and removing diplapidated structures in the city.
In other business Council gave administrators direction on construction of a new animal control shelter here. Although the city the funds to build a new shelter in the new budget year, the plan would include to budget for the shelter over the next several budget years.
It was noted a possible location for the project would be on city property located off FM 766 near the TDCJ Stevenson Unit.
Council also selected engineers for four projects. John D. Mercer and Associates was chosen for water plant and water-sewer line improvements while Urban Engineering was chosen for a Texas Capital Fund Downtown Revitalization Program and improvements at the wastewater treatment plant.
The city is continuing its plan to increase fees for grave sites at Hillside Cemetery. Also the second reading of an ordinance requiring pet owners to clean-up after their cats and dogs was approved.
