Only 9% vote in state election

DeWitt County voters showed slightly more interest in Tuesday’s Texas Constitutional Amendment election than the state as a whole, percentage-wise.
With 11 propositions on the ballot, 8.94% of DeWitt County’s 11,859 voters (1,060) made their way to the polls. Across the state, only 8.11% of 12,952,562 registered voters cast a ballot.
Although all propositions were approved statewide, DeWitt County voters did not approve two of the proposed amendments. The two that did not find favor here were Propositions 1 and 4.
The following is DeWitt County’s unofficial results from the election:
•Prop. 1 Finance buffer areas adjacent to military installations: For - 496; Against - 532
•Prop. 2 Regulate how homestead ad valorem taxes are calculated: For - 715; Against - 324
•Prop. 3 Provide uniform standards for appraising property: For - 586; Against - 443
•Prop. 4 University fund to assist emerging research universities: For - 414; Against - 606
•Prop. 5 Single appraisal review board for adjoining entities: For - 518; Against 495
•Prop. 6 Authorize the Veterans’ Land Board to issue bonds: For - 600; Against - 419
•Prop. 7 State Guard officer or member may hold other civil office: For - 679; Against 349
•Prop. 8 Authorize the state to contribute to veterans hospitals: For - 697; Against - 335
•Prop. 9 Protect the right of the public to access public beaches: For - 705; Against - 323
•Prop. 10 ESD board members’ terms may not exceed four years: For - 627; Against - 392
•Prop. 11 Limits on power of eminent domain: For - 875; Against - 180.
