Plastic Recycling drive through Friday
(Posted 11/18/2009 08:47 am)
“Put plastic in its place - it all comes back to you” will be observed here through Friday, Nov. 20. It is sponsored by Keep Cuero Beautiful.
Residents are encouraged to save No. 1 and No. 2 type plastic bottles and containers and take them to Cuero Recycling Center. City of Cuero will have a special dumpster at the Recycling Center to collect plastic for this event and it will be there until it is full or through the end of the year, whichever comes first.
Plastic #1 (PET) is clear and tough and is commonly used in beverage bottles. Check the bottom of the bottle, soft drinks, water, juice, sports dinks, mouthwash, catsup and salad dressing; food jars for peanut butter, jelly, jam and pickles. Remove caps and pumps, rinse bottle before recycling it.
Plastic #2 (HDPE) is translucent, have good barrier properties and stiffness, and used for packaging materials with short shelf life such as milk. Check the bottom of the bottle containing products such as milk, juice, cosmetics, shampoo, dish detergent, bags for groceries, and ceral box liners. Remove caps and pumps, rinse bottles before recycling, no need to remove labels.
Keep Cuero Beautiful is participating in this statewide public awareness campaign to promote the environmental and economic benefits of recycling plastics.
