The Christmas season in Cuero will kick off on Monday, Nov. 23, at 6:30 p.m. for the 23rd annual Cuero Community Christmas Tree Lighting. A tradition since 1987, this event will take place at the corner of Esplanade and Court House Drive at the Wells Fargo Bank building.
Entertainment by area bands and choirs will be topped of by a visit from Santa.
The “Christmas Tree Committee” works to erect a large tree of lights on Esplanade each year. Lights are “sold” to honor friends and family for a contribution of $10 to the organization. Christmas scenes are sponsored by local businesses and families and the brilliant star that tops the tree is dedicated to honor area leaders.
This year Cuero DeWitt Community Development Corporation is dedicating the star in honor of Janet Smith and her late husband, Don.
Organization President Rick Wheeler noted, “For 23 years the star has been kept a secret until the evening that the tree is lit, but this year, we’d like to let Cuero and DeWitt County have an opportunity to contribute to the honor.”
Referring to the tireless dedication and support of Don and Janet Smith, he said, “They have really been our ‘stars’ for years and years and we want to honor their commitment to Cuero and this project.”
Light donations of $10 can be sent to Janet Smith, 218 W. Broadway, Cuero, Texas 77954. There are also nine Christmas scenes that adorn the base of the large tree available for sponsoring contributions of $250. For further information, please contact Janet Smith at 361.277.9506.
