Car chase in DeWitt results in arrest, injuries

Several felonies are facing a Yorktown man after a high-speed chase and a wreck that occurred north of Yorktown Thanksgiving night.
DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 7 p.m. Thursday that two people traveling on Hwy. 72 between Yorktown and Nordheim had been shot at. The individuals reported they saw a vehicle approaching behind them at a high rate of speed. When the vehicle passed, someone in the vehicle stuck a pistol out the window at shot at them.
Deputies contacted law enforcement in Karnes County to assist with locating the vehicle. Deputies in that county reported seeing the vehicle and identified the driver.
As DeWitt County Deputy Larry Nobles was headed toward Nordheim on Hwy. 72, he saw a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed headed south on the highway. When he turned around to attempt to stop the vehicle, a high speed chase began. Deputy Nobles said speeds topped 115 mph.
The chase continued onto FM 2980 north of Yorktown where the driver lost control of the 1995 Camero. The vehicle rolled hitting a tree.
The driver ran from the wreck but a passenger received serious injuries and was flown by Lifeflight helicopter to a San Antonio hospital for emergency treatment.
About two hours after the wreck, officers located and arrested Frank Vasquez, Jr., 39, of Yorktown at a residence in Yorktown. He was charged with deadly conduct, evading arrest, and leaving the scene of an accident. Bond was set at $20,000 on each of those charges. He was also charged with parole violation.
The passenger injured in the wreck was Ruperto Gonzales, 44, of Yorktown.
