Tri-County Beef Symposium

Texas AgriLife Extension Service of DeWitt, Lavaca and Gonzales Counties are sponsoring a Tri-County Beef Cattle Symposium to be held on Wednesday, December 16. Three (3) CEU's will be provided for pesticide license holders. Registration will be from 7:30-8:15 a.m. at the Wied Hall, between Shiner and Hallettsville, with the program beginning at 8:15 a.m.
To kick off the symposium, Dr. Larry Falconer, Texas AgriLife Extension Economist, will present a program on "Beef Cattle Economic Outlook". Next up, "What's Happening to the Neighborhood", a program on Texas land trends and land fragmentation, will be presented by Amy Snelgrove, Director of Land Information Systems Lab, Texas A&M Institute of Renewable Natural Resources.
The final program of the morning will be on "Landowner Liability Issues - Are You at Risk?", presented by Judon Fambrough, Senior Lecturer at the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University. Following the morning programs a catered meal will be served. The symposium will continue after lunch with an update on Farm Service Agency (FSA) programs being presented by Ben Rush, Gonzales/Lavaca FSA Director, and Grady Kelley, DeWitt/Karnes FSA Director.
To wrap-up the day, Dr. Rick Machen, Texas AgriLife Extension Livestock Specialist, will present a program on "Beef Cattle Industry Hot Topics", which will cover such issues as Trichomoniasis, Fever ticks, Country of Origin Labeling, National Animal Identification System, Cap and Trade policies, etc. The Symposium should conclude between 2:00-3:00 p.m. There will be a $10 per person cost, which includes morning refreshments and a catered lunch.
You will need to RSVP for the program by calling the Extension Office in DeWitt County at 361-275-0816, Lavaca County at 361-798-2221, or Gonzales County at 830-672-8531 by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 14. Individuals with disabilities who require an auxiliary aid, service or accommodation in order to participate in this program are encouraged to contact the Extension Office to determine how reasonable accommodations can be made.
