Cruelty charges on pair
 (Posted 1/20/2010 08:18 am)
Skyler Martinez, 17, of 328 Cemetery Rd, Nordheim, was arrested by DeWitt County Sheriff’s Deputies Jan. 12 on four warrants charging him with cruelty to live stock.
Martinez and a juvenile are charged with killing one cow and one horse and the wounding of two additional cows. Sheriff’s investigators are still trying to determine the motives behind the incidents.
The incidents happened in western DeWitt County within the past several weeks. They are expecting additional arrests, as well as possible additional charges. They understand there may be more livestock that has been killed or wounded and not reported to them. If anyone has had livestock shot in that area, they should contact the DeWitt County Sheriffs’ Office.
The juvenile is in custody and was transported to a juvenile detention center and is charged with four counts of cruelty to livestock.
Martinez remains in the DeWitt County Jail with bonds totaling $20,000. ($5,000 each case.)
Cruelty to livestock is a felony punishable by 180 days to two years in the state jail and or up to a $10,000 fine.
