Seven qualify for AAU Jr. Olympics

Monte Green-Avery, D' Colby Green-Avery, Trent jackson, A.J. Bustos, Buster Hansel, Darius Mathis, and Khadijah Mathis were participants in the Cuero Summer Track Recreation Program and competed at the South Texas AAU District Championship Qualifiers Meet in Brownsville recently. They qualified to compete at the AAU National Junior Olympics to be held in Michigan July 29-Aug. 2.

Monte Green-Avery, who was a member of the Cuero Gobbler Class 3A State Champions track team, will once again, for the seventh consecutive year, compete at nationals in the 100 yard dash, long jump, triple jump, and the 4x100 meter relay. He will be a 10th grader at Cuero High School and is the son of Dawn Green, grandson of Johnnie V. Green, nephew of Darcel Green and Roy Green and great-grandson of Corene Green.

D' Colby Green-Avery will compete in shot put and 4x100m relay. He will be a 10th grader at CHS and is the son of Darcel Green, grandson of Johnnie V. Green, nephew of Dawn Green and Roy Green, and great-grandson of Corene Green.

Khadijah Mathis will be an 8th grader at CJHS and will compete at nationals in shot put. She is the daughter of Marsha Jones of LaMarque (formerly of Cuero), granddaughter of the late Robert Prince, great-granddaughter of the late Margie Nell Austin, great-granddaughter of Corene Green, and great-great niece of Johnnie V. Green.

Trent Jackson will compete in the 100 yard dash, long jump, triple jump and 4x100 relay. He is the son of James Jackson and Lillian Barnet. he will be a 9th grader.

A.J. Bustos will compete in the long jump and 4x100m relay. He is the son of Sophie Bustos and Donald Gray. He will be a 9th grader.

Buster Hansel will compete at nationals in the 3000m run. He is the son of Paul and Donna Hansel. He will be a 10th grader.
