It wasn’t the County Music Association’s annual award show, but the Yorktown FFA Stock Show and Sale entertained attendees just as well this past Saturday at the Yorktown show barn.
Auctioneer Joe Adams kept the action going by having students sing tunes to the audience before opening bidding on their respective animals. Yorktown High School senior Dustin Metting started things off by leading the audience in his rendition of Tanya Tucker’s “Delta Dawn,” the name selected for his 224-pound hog.  Derek Franke followed up with “That Don’t Impress Me Much” by Shania Twain as he exhibited his hog by the same name.
Saturday’s show resulted in a trifecta for junior Doss Torrez – his steer won grand champion, his sheep won reserve champion, and he received the showmanship buckle in the steer division.   Steven and Debbie Kneese and Jerry and Mary Steves purchased Torrez’s 1,295-pound grand champion steer for a total of $6,200.
Shelby Franke’s 226-pound grand champion hog was purchased by Bianchi/Boone and Karnes County Livestock for a total of $6,500.
Kynli Hranicky sold her 144-pound grand champion sheep to Citizens Bank, Top Dog, Tommy’s Ag Service, and South Texas Air-Conditioning for $3,900.
Caitlin Seifert’s 1,285-pound reserve champion steer was purchased by Seifert Family Ranches for a total of $6,199.
Maddie Bryand sold her 249-pound reserve champion hog to Kirby Jalufka for $4,500.
Doss Torrez’s 132-pound reserve champion sheep was purchased by Top Dog & HEB for $3,899.
Showmanship winners at this year’s show were: Doss Torrez, steers;  Caleb Lemke, sheep; and Evan Krause, hogs.  Derek Franke was named as the shop project winner.
