All participants in the pageant were winners

Dear Editor,
Following is a personal message to all the parents and contestants: Thank you for participating in this special Cuero event that gives so many of our young ladies a chance to have a moment or two in the limelight.
First of all, we must acknowledge the Cuero Chamber of Commerce and the event’s many sponsors. Cuero is one of the very, very few communities in Texas that holds a pageant open to any area resident with absolutely no entry fees plus the contestants also receive souvenirs and mementos of their participation. Hundreds of volunteer hours make this contest possible and yet it is on the caliber of many big city pageants.
The Miss Cuero pageant began Saturday morning with the interview sessions in which each contestant met one on one with the judging panel. The judges did not share their opinions and they scored each contestant on her own merits. Those scores were combined with the scores the contestants earned at the night show in the sportswear and formal (or for the younger groups, the party dress competition). The judge’s scores were tallied by an independent auditor. The out of town Miss Cuero judges have always shared with us how impressed they are with this group of young ladies who were articulate, personable and most of all – very proud of Cuero, their home town.
