Annual Row Crops tour planned June 25

The DeWitt County Row Crops Committee will be hosting their annual Crops Tour on Tuesday, June 25. The program will begin at 3 p.m. at the City Park Pavilion in Yorktown. Registration will be between 2-3 p.m. Following the tour stops the program will conclude at Gruenau Hall, eight miles north of Yorktown off of FM 108.
After a welcome and overview at the City Park Pavilion, the tour will begin with the first stop being at the Tracy Metting farm to view and discuss the cotton variety test plot. The tour will then proceed to the Fred and Chad Hahn farm to view and discuss the corn hybrid test plot. Dr. Roy Parker, AgriLife Extension entomologist, will be the guest speaker and moderator at the two crops stops. After the crops stops, the tour will then proceed to the Gruenau Hall, where it will finish with two programs.
A program on “Smart Phone Apps For Agricultural Producers” will be presented by Darin Kotara, AgriLife Extension Computer Specialist, and a program on “County Road Repair Legislative Funding Update” will be presented by Daryl Fowler, DeWitt County Judge.
Grady Kelley, DeWitt County Farm Service Agency Director, will also give a brief update on FSA programs.
The Row Crops Tour is sponsored by Texas AgriLife Extension Service of DeWitt County, DeWitt County Row Crops Committee, and Yorktown Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture.

The program will conclude with the traditional sausage supper at the Gruenau Hall at approximately 6:30-7 p.m. There will be a $5 per person fee charged.
