Fire destroys home outside Cuero

The Cuero Fire Department responded to a house fire at 6621 Hwy. 87 S. at approximately 4 p.m. July 30. The two story home, which housed seven people, was destroyed. Homeowners were Maria and Arnulfo Saenz. Living with them were their adult children, son Raul Saenz and daughter Alejandra Zaiontz. Alejandra’s husband John Zaiontz and their son, John Zaiontz, also resided at the home.  Alejandra and John’s son will be a second grader at Hunt Elementary School in Cuero. A friend of the family, Ruby Francis, of Port Lavaca, also lived at home. Also assisting at the scene were  the Yoakum, Nursery and Victoria fire departments. No one was injured. Red Cross temporarily housed the family at the Victory Inn in Victoria for three days.  The home was not insured and the family is looking for a mobile home to park on their land.
