Dear Editor,

In the Aug. 7 edition of the Record, under the public notices section, was a notice of salaries of elected officials of DeWitt County. The officials will be giving themselves a 10 percent raise. They raised their salaries 3 percent in 2011 and 2012, so this would be three years they are raising their salaries. Does this sound familiar? Do we have another Washington DC here in DeWitt County?

Are you satisfied with  your county commissioners, county judge and county lawyer with representing the people of DeWitt County? Citizens who live in the county and travel on county roads, are you seeing improvements or road repairs?

There was a statement printed in the paper, that an oil company was giving $8,000 to the county for every well they drilled, for the roads. Is this money being used for the roads? I observed a repair made on one county raod, a thin layer of black top was put over all of the patches that had patches on top of patches. The roads are a shamble.

The county commissioner meeting was held at 9 a.m. Aug. 20 and will meet again at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26. If you disapprove of the raises, come and let it be known.

The people of the city and county have a choice. If we don’t approve of the job they are doing – when the elected officials are not for the citizens and their district, but for themselves – then it is time for a change.
