Yorktown Police Department and DPS responded to a wreck yesterday at approximately 3:44 p.m. According to Sgt. Richard Ramirez, two vehicles traveling on state Highway 119 collided at the intersection near 10th Street in Yorktown causing two fatalities and one in serious condition.

Michael J. Windberg, 27, of Goliad, was driving a 2005 F750 company truck for Jet Mechanic of Victoria. Windberg hit an oncoming truck, driven by Dominic Alvarez, 28, of Mathis. Windberg suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to University Hospital in San Antonio. Alvarez and his passenger, Aaron Garcia, 23, of Mathis, both died on impact at the scene of the incident, according to Ramirez. The truck model was a 2008 F450.

Because of the heavy downpour of rain that hour, Ramirez said the Yorktown PD and DPS are looking into the possibility of hydroplane and speed as causes of the wreck.

Yorktown EMS and the Yorktown VFD also assisted at the scene.

Ramirez said the police department has notified the families of the deceased.
