There were approximately 50 people who attended a public meeting held at the First Baptist Church of Yorktown on Nov. 21 discussing possible dangers and risks with smart meters.
 
What is a smart meter? 
 
The term Smart Meter often refers to an electricity meter, but it also may mean a device measuring natural gas or water consumption. It has the ability to measure in intervals of an hour or less and communicates that information at least daily  to the utility company for monitoring and billing purposes. 
 
Unlike the analog meter or digital meter that require someone to either read or scan for utility usage, the smart meters enable two-way communication between the meter and the central system, much like wi-fi. Smart meters gather data of your usage where you and the utility company can have access of usage at any time.
