County seeks $4.5M for road repairs

DeWitt County Commissioners Court has taken the next step and will soon apply for about $4.5 million in state funds to help with its road repair and reconstruction.
 
Once approved, the state grant money and locally designated tax revenue will give the county just over $22 million to begin its road repair work.
 
In a meeting last week, the court complied with requirements to designate areas of the county as energy transportation reinvestment zones. With that designation, tax revenue from improved mineral values can be targeted to road repairs. Plus the appraised values from the minerals in those zones will not be used in calculating the effective or rollback tax rate for the next budget year.
