Lady Pirates take district open

The Nordheim Lady Pirates traveled to Prairie Lea for their opening district game on Jan. 7 and sailed home with a win 39-33.

Nordheim coach Randy Castillo said, “We came out very slow in the first period. We lacked energy and Alyssa’s shots kept rimming out.”

As the game progressed the team pulled together taking the lead in the second period and maintained their distance to the end.

“They started to play smart and had good rebounds. Our defense did very good,” Castillo said.

The team had six turnovers the entire game with nine steals. Alyssa Leister had five of those steals and earned 14 points. Daiija Williams led in scoring with 17 points.

Jan. 10 the Lady Pirates (1-0, 9-8) will play Waelder (0-1, 0-6) at home.
