Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Elizabeth Tolbert of Cuero underwent surgery Friday for injuries she received in a reported farm/ranch accident late Thursday near here.
She was injured when two wheels of a trailer rolled over her. Her husband Cuero Police Patrol Sgt. Corey Tolbert was driving the truck that was pulling the trailer. The accident happened around dusk at their place located between Cuero and Goliad off Five Mile Road.
Cuero Police Chief Jay Lewis said Trooper Tolbert was taken by private vehicle to Cuero Community Hospital following the accident. From there she was flown by medical helicopter to the intensive care unit of San Antonio Military Medical Center.
Tolbert underwent surgery Friday to repair a fracture and other injuries. Lewis reported she was sitting up Sunday and appeared to be recovering.
Chief Lewis confirmed that Texas Rangers were investigating the incident and District Attorney Michael Sheppard said Monday the investigation was continuing.
Lewis said he spent most of Friday talking with the Rangers and said it appeared Corey Tolbert was trying to move a truck with a trailer. His wife either slipped or fell when he was moving the trailer and the trailer wheels rolled over her.
Sgt. Tolbert has been with the Cuero Police Department since 2002.
