Jenkins recognized for 26 years as pastor

The Rev. and Mrs. Sam Jenkins were honored recently for 26 years of service as a pastor of New Hope Baptist Church in Cuero.
 
A reception was held at First Baptist Church fellowship hall which featured special music and tributes by many of Jenkins’ friends and fellow ministers.
 
Jenkins moved to Cuero in 1979 and immediately became active in the community. He graduated form Guadalupe Seminary College with a Bachelor of Divinity and a Master of Theology in 1989.
 
He served two terms as a board member of Cuero Chamber of Commerce and six years as chaplain at Texas Department of Corrections Stevenson Unit. 
 
Jenkins also served as an interviewer for Cuero Police Department and DeWitt County Sheriff’s Department. He also serves as a chaplain at Cuero Community Hospital and has counseled countless inmates at DeWitt County Jail.
 
For 26 years he served as pastor of New Hope Baptist Church. Under his leadership, four ministers were ordained in the prison ministry and two of those ministers are now pastors. 
 
At the reception, Jenkins was recognized for his support and involvement with Cuero Area Ministerial Alliance and Mt. Zion District Association, Region 5.
 
He was also recognized for his assistance to Cuero Police Department.
