Memorial Day observed

 

In spite of the storm, the DeWitt County Vietnam Veterans Chapter 1029, along with American legion Post 272, Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 8136, and Ladies Auxiliary Post 8136 hosted the Memorial Day Service held in Yorktown. 
Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2, Bill Robinson is shown as master of ceremonies. 
 
On behalf of the City of Yorktown mayor Rene Hernandez welcomed everyone for attending and gave an opening speech. 
 
DeWitt County judge Daryl L. Fowler spoke on behalf of DeWitt County. 
 
Invocation was done by pastor Jerry Mercer of Open Bible Baptist Church. 
 
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Yorktown High School student council president James Semper. Krista Morgan led in the singing of the National Anthem and America the Beautiful.
 
The laying of the memorial wreath was done by president of the Ladies Auxiliary Post Rachel Robinson. Commander of Fritz Range Post Gilbert Pargmann, Commander of VFW Post 8136, and president of the DCVVC 1029 Eilert Richard Weitzel II made their Memorial Day comments. 
 
Rachel Robinson recognized the Gold Star Mothers, Irene Ibrom and Patricia Green. Rachel also recognized the war wives: Korean War widow Jean Gohmert and Afghanistan War widow Lindsey Green.
 
Memorial Day speaker was service officer for Refugio County Richard Sanchez.
 
The wreath was laid by Richard Sanchez and Clark Kerlick. Pastor Jerry Mercer gave the benediction. The service was closed with a 21-gun salute, the playing of Taps, and the retiring of the colors.
