Museum supporter honored at annual luncheon

With practically every seat in the house taken, Yorktown Historical Museum promoter Bea McKinney said a tearful goodbye as a conclusion to the annual salad luncheon sponsored by the Yorktown Historical Society on Thursday, June 12 at the museum. After several years of living on Alves Road off Hwy. 119 South, McKinney and her husband, Mack, will be relocating to Silver City, New Mexico in the coming weeks.
 
“A new chapter is unfolding,” McKinney said, expressing her gratitude to members of the Yorktown Historical Society and others present. “I know a lot of ‘sweat equity’ has gone into this museum,” she added, noting the workers -- the ones who do all the hard work -- are the ones who truly deserve attention.
 
McKinney sported a bright blue outfit that matched her cornflower blue eyes, which sparkled brightly behind her eyeglasses. A large yellow sunflower adorned her lapel while her signature hat, one of many she is never seen without, rested atop her head. McKinney dined with longtime historical society member and supporter Caroline Blain, who McKinney also credited as a driving force behind the museum.
