Hummingbird seminar scheduled Aug. 30 at First Baptist Church

 

Glenn Robertson will present a seminar titled, “The Hummingbirds of DeWitt County” at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30, at the Fellowship Hall of the First Baptist Church. The seminar offers help for watching and identifying hummingbirds in the DeWitt County area.
 
Robertson has been a volunteer for the Texas Hummingbird Roundup, a program which tracts the migration of hummingbirds in Texas. The program is run by the Texas Department of Wildlife. As a volunteer, Robertson counts sightings of hummingbirds and notes their species, numbers and genders. He makes weekly reports back to the Texas Department of Wildlife for hummingbird activity in DeWitt County. He has been doing this since 2008. Through the years, Robertson has learneded to identify the various species which fly through the county.
 
Robertson is also a photographer. He has photographed many of these species has have developed  a program to help people identify the species and genders of the hummingbirds in the area.
 
The program is open to the public as a public service to aid those who love to watch hummingbirds. Robertson will show photos and talk about the various species that come through DeWitt County. Robertson will talk about the hummingbird seasons in the area and migration patterns, as well as speak to the unique nature of hummingbirds. He will also speak on the dos and don’ts of feeder care, and how to attract hummingbirds to the home through planting flowers that attract hummingbirds.
