Metting seeks seat on school board

Dear Editor,
My name is Todd Metting and I am seeking a seat on the Yorktown School Board.  My wife, Laurie, and I were born and raised here in Yorktown, graduating in 1982.
We have two children, Dustin, who is a senior at Yorktown High School, and Brian, who is in the 7th grade at Yorktown Middle School.
When our children were younger, I was a soccer and little league coach and a Boy Scout leader.
The Yorktown School System has had many successful programs, but many problems from the cleanliness of the facilities to teacher and student turnover.

All registered voters encouraged to vote

Dear Editor,
I wonder how many voters in Cuero are aware that early voting in the 2013 City Election is already in progress. Registered voters can cast their ballot at the DeWitt County Election Center at 115 North Gonzales in Cuero today, May 1 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. The polls are also open May 2, May 3, May 6 and May 7 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. On Election Day, May 11, the polls are open from 7 a.m. until 7 pm.
So what are we voting on? There is only one contested city race, but it is open to all registered voters in the city.

Lifeway Baptist Church sponsoring prayer vigil for Heard

Dear Editor,
Lifeway Baptist Church is sponsoring a 24 hour prayer vigil for Andrew Heard on Saturday, May 4 beginning at 8 a.m. Andrew will also be speaking on Sunday at 8 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend. A lunch will be served immediately after the service.
The lives impacted and changed by Andrew Heard’s story of struggling with cancer to empowering people to never give up has made an impression on not just our community but to those who follow his blog and have heard him speak.
God is using Andrew in a mighty way to reach people who might never sit in a church or hear a sermon.

Dear Editor,
Once again the Community Women United for Christ had an awesome weekend at El Shaddi ranch in Yorktown. There they communed with Christ on their second annual Women’s Spiritual Retreat on March 22-24.
This was such an uplifting spiritual weekend. Our cups overflowed with praise and worship. To God be the glory.
If you missed this amazing experience, join us next year as plans for our third retreat has already been set for May 2-4, 2014.

The school board dropped the ball

Dear Editor,
   Who dropped the ball?
Once again our school district is in the media because our administration and most members of our school board continues to conduct business as usual.
Now the question becomes, who is at fault that the high school principal has not been certified since September 2008 and was certifying students for graduation when he himself was not certified?
Let’s go back to where it all started. On July 29, 2008 the board voted unanimously on the recommendation of the superintendent to offer him a one year contract in which five of the board members that voted sits on the current board today.
