Kuester celebrates 100th birthday

Edwin Kuester of Cuero reached a major milestone by celebrating his 100th birthday on Jan. 12 with family and friends at Cuero Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Sarah Mayer, mayor of Cuero, presented Kuester with a proclamation commending him for his lifelong achievement. He was born and raised outside of Cuero in Lindenau and remembers wearing out several pairs of shoes from walking seven miles to and from high school every day. His luck eventually changed when he got a horse to ride to school. He and Ipha, his wife of 58 years, spent many of their days dancing to swing and big band music. Kuester has always been active at Grace Presbyterian Church and is its eldest member. Contributed photo.
