Ochoa-Cantu engagement

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Ochoa of Yorktown are proud to announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Kelly Lauren Ochoa, to Daniel Cantu, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roberto Cantu of Laredo. The couple will marry on Jan. 11, 2014 in San Antonio. Kelly is the granddaughter of Evangelina Martinez and the late Eluterio Martinez of Runge, Ysidro Ochoa of Olton and the late Hortencia Ochoa.  She is a 2005 honor graduate of Yorktown High School, and a St. Mary’s University of San Antonio graduate with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Marketing, a Bachelor’s of Arts in Biology, and a Master’s in Business Administration. Newman-Stehling engagement

Mark Newman and Connie Hall are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Kayla Newman, to Eric Stehling, son of Tommy and Eva Stehling. Kayla graduated summa cum laude from the University of Houston-Victoria in 2012 with a major in elementary education.  She is a 2nd grade teacher at Cuero ISD. Frels, Eckstrom marrying Jan. 25

James Frels of Yoakum is pleased to announce the engagement of his daughter, Natalie, to Matthew, son of Carol and Neal Eckstrom of Stratton. Natalie is the daughter of the late Donna Frels of Yoakum. She is a 2005 graduate of Yoakum High School and attends Texas A&M–Corpus Christi. Matthew is a 2005 graduate of Yoakum High School and a 2010 graduate of Texas A&M–Corpus Christi. The couple will marry on Jan. 25, 2014 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Cuero. After their wedding, the couple will reside in Corpus Christi.

Holy Cross Craft Show puts on crafty little business

Yorktown Holy Cross Craft Show was held this past Saturday at the Yorktown Community Hall and dining room. Many vendors were on hand to sell their wares, which included a large variety of items, along with a special visit by Santa during the morning. Santa’s Café was also open, offering shoppers and visitors delicious refreshments including homemade soups and chili. The event was sponsored by the Holy Cross Catholic Daughters of America. Soliz, Jr. receives master degree

 

Ruben Soliz, Jr. received his masters of arts and human sciences on Dec. 14 at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. Attending his fall commencement were his mother, Lydia G. Soliz, and sisters, Melinda, Yvonne, Laura and Linda. Also attending was his brother-in-law, William Ruiz and nieces and nephews, Ashley, Courtney, Arianna, Jaelyn, Cameron, Ethan and Jayce. Friends attending were Leslee, Melanie, Stephen and Cris from San Antonio.
Ruben is the grandson of Sofia G. Garcia of Yorktown and the late Antonio C. Garcia and Elisa Soliz of Nordheim and the late Alex Soliz, Sr. Ruben is currently pursuing a second masters in psychology.  Contributed photo

Olguins celebrate anniversary

Julia and Mario Olguin celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Nov. 12.  They were married Nov. 12, 1988 at The Good Shepherd Church in Cuero. Mr. and Mrs. Olguin have two children, April Olguin of Victoria and Mario Olguin of Taos, N.M. To celebrate their anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. Olguin, along with family members, vacationed in Maui, Hawaii.
