Veterans passing through Cuero May 16, 17

 

Warriors Weekend is planned May 17. At approximately 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 16, soldiers will pass through Cuero from Fort Hood. The veterans will stop by Faith Family Church and the Warriors Weekend Field of Honor in Victoria before departing for Seadrift, Port Lavaca or Port O’Connor.
 
At approximately 7:30 a.m. Saturday, May 17, veterans will pass through Cuero from Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston. They will arrive at Port O’Connor around 9 a.m. Fishing will begin at 10 a.m. and an awards banquet and barbecue will begin at 6 p.m. Veterans will depart from the event at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 18.

If you build it, they will come. That line is from a 1989 Kevin Costner film titled “Field of Dreams.” Costner plays a farmer who builds a baseball diamond in the middle of his corn field to bring in baseball players from long ago. 
 
When the DeWitt County commissioners’ court began working on a new detention facility in 2005, the plan was to meet our present and future needs along with the possibility of housing inmates from other agencies.
 
The DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office detention facility is a 161 bed maximum security detention center. In three separate pods, each consisting of six eight-bed dormitory style units and five single-cell beds, one centrally located medical cell, and one additional single-cell located near the booking area.

KYB Yard of the Month for May...

The Keep Yorktown Beautiful Organization has chosen the yard of Clay and Robin Caran as Yard of the Month for May.  Situated at 5098 FM 108, the entire yard is truly a work of art.  Beautiful plants, side walks, a water feature, vegetable garden, and lush green grass all add to the picturesque landscape. Four Yorktown HS students advance to UIL State Academic meet in Austin

On May 2 six students from Yorktown High School traveled to the UIL Region 4 Academic meet at Blinn College in Brenham to compete in the Division 1A contests. The accounting team, consisting of seniors Abigail Lodeweges, Victoria Pena, and Danielle Penn took home first-place gold medals, with Danielle placing second, Victoria placing fourth, and Abigail contributing to the win in eighth place.  Junior Paige Milson tied for first place in spelling and vocabulary, also bringing home a gold medal. All four ladies will  advance to the UIL State Academic Meet, which will take place on May 20 at the University of Texas campus in Austin.
