James Metting

Surrounded by his family, James D. “Pops” Metting, Sr., 84, passed away July 29, 2015 in Yorktown. He is survived by his wife and best friend of more than five decades, Tonie.  
 
James was born March 26, 1931, the only child of Erwin and Ella (Gerbert) Metting of Yorktown. His early years were spent learning the trade of homestead farming, and attending Metting School before graduating from Yorktown High in 1948.

Noney Body

Noney (Ninaye) Body, 62, of Cuero passed away Monday, July 27, 2015.  She was born August 21, 1952 in Opelousas, Louisiana to the late Henry and Olivia Lewis Monroe.  Noney married the love of her life, Troy Body on June 20, 1975 at World Mission Church in San Antonio. She attended Victoria College and received her certification to be a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She was an LVN for 22 years and was also a licensed minister. 
 
She is survived by her devoted husband; daughter, Tami Body of Cuero; sons, Tré Body and Timothy (Kesiaa) Body, both of Cuero; sister, Joyce Ann (Ulysses) Screws of Cuero; and grandchildren, Camden Chavez, Jae'Menn Body, Mariah Body, Camren Body, Camille Body, and Maryssa Body, all of Cuero.  
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Erma Rose Monroe; and brothers, Gene Monroe, Henry Monroe Jr., Glen David Monroe, and Hosea Monroe.

Deborah Johnson

Deborah Kay Johnson, 62, of Cuero passed away Monday, July 20, 2015.  She was born February 11, 1953 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. Deborah was a nurses aide.
 
 She is survived by her devoted partner, Ruben Garza Jr. of Cuero; stepparents, Al and Anita Luhn of Corpus Christi; sister, Mary Draper of Leavenworth, Kansas; and brother, Floyd Ray Kinard of Rosenburg.

Walter Ebrom

Walter Julius Ebrom, 76, passed away Monday, July 27, 2015 after a 10 month fight with cancer. He was born in Westhoff on November 11, 1938 to the late Frank and Rosie Ebrom. Walter was a devoted son, brother, uncle, and friend. Walter was a retired Southern Railroad employee. Walter loved to mow lawns. He took pride in his skills and was the best.
He is survived by his sisters, Dorothy Schaffner, Irene Mueller, all of Cuero, Valeria Alex Buesing (Floyd) of Yorktown, Helen Hotz of Eagle Lake, Janie Goehring of Westhoff; brothers, Ben Ebrom, Edmund Ebrom (Sarah), both of Cuero, and Paul Ebrom of McAllen. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Elnora Lincke, Cecelia Lockstedt; and brother, Jacob Ebrom.

Rubert Egg

Rubert Lloyd Egg of Meyersville passed away at 76 on Saturday, July 25, 2015. He was born February 10, 1939 to Walter and Elvie Egg and was a life member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Meyersville. He loved and cherished life and was always there to help everyone. He spent his life doing Christian work including Sunday School teacher, piano player, confirmation teacher and the organ player for the church. He was also a member of the choir. He participated in community service including 4-H leader and the Meyersville Volunteer Fire Department. He spent his entire life working and spending time with his family and farm. He retired from CP&L after 45 years of employment and traveled the world with his beloved wife and friends.

Juan Mejias Sr.

Juan Manuel Mejias Sr. (El Majias), 67, of Cuero passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2015. He was born November 28, 1947 in Lamesa to the late Steven Mejias and Josie Zapata. He worked as a rancher and always enjoyed time spent with family and friends.
 
He is survived by mother, Josie Zapata; daughters, Mary Lou Martinez of San Antonio, Geraldine Gigi Mendoza of Cuero; sons, John Manuel Mejias Jr. of Cuero, Steve Stanley Mejias of Cuero; sisters, Alice Herrera of Cuero, Rachel Zapata of Cuero; brothers, Steve Mejias of Cliburn, Ben Zapata Jr. of La Grange; ten grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father; wife, Mary Mejias; and sister, Mary Dillingham.
 
Visitation will be held at Freund Funeral Home on Thursday,  July 23, 2015 from 6-8 pm with a Rosary to begin at 7 pm.

Lorene Holman

Lorene Emma Holman was born April 15, 1921 to Lucy White and Alfred Lane in Sample, TX. She grew up in an age of cotton fields and was a hard worker with a fiery attitude. She married Benner Holman, Jr. on June 3, 1939 and to this union seven children were born: Dorothy, Robert, Lucy, Johnal, Charles, Loleat and Betty. The house was always full of life and she and her husband worked hard to maintain a strict family setting. Lorene was “Mama Rene” to everyone. She loved her neighbors and the neighbor’s kids just like her own.
 
Lorene’s pride and joy was her Church and Church Work. She took great pride in working for the Lord and she never stopped. She joined the St. Thomas Baptist church and served faithfully for over 75 years until the Lord called her home.

Wilbert Lee Kraatz

Wilbert Lee Kraatz, 78, of Cuero, passed away July 13, 2015. He was born December 7, 1936 in Flatonia to the late Alfred and Herminia Reck Kraatz. 

Wilbert was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eliott Kraatz and Edgar Kraatz; sisters, Ruby Kraatz and Lillian Weise; and brother-in-law, Raymond Weise.

He is survived by his nephew, Dennis and Janie Weise; nieces, Patricia Weise and Dorothy Kraatz; and 16 great-nieces and nephews.

On Wednesday, July 15 visitation was from 1-2 p.m. at Finch Funeral Chapel and a graveside service at 3 p.m. at Weesatche Cemetery with Pastor C. B. Suggs officiating.

Pallbearers were Doug Ziers, Glenwood Willms, Robert Leal and Joe Sanders.

Kathryn "Kathy" Alexander

Kathryn “Kathy” Alexander, 60 of Victoria passed away Saturday, July 19, 2015. She was born Dec. 26, 1954 to Tommie W. Howard and the late Margaret Migura Howard in Yorktown. She recently retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

She is survived by her daughter Corina Turner and husband Gregory of Victoria, father Tommie W. Howard of Yorktown, sister Gloria Lerch of Yoakum, grandchildren Devyn and Hailey Turner and father-in-law Milburn Alexander of Yorktown.

She was preceded in death by her husband David Wayne Alexander, mother Margaret Howard, sister Diana Howard.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 22 at Massey Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday July 23 at Massey Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Westside Cemetery.

Mary Lou Landgrebe Rabke

Mary Lou Landgrebe Rabke, 79, of Yorktown, passed away Friday July 17, 2015. She was born April 15, 1936 in Goliad County to the late Erwin and Louise Rogge Landgrebe. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
 
She is survived by her husband Thomas Rabke of Yorktown, daughters Bonnie Ellis and Tammy Schmiedlin, step daughter Tammy Childers, step son Trevor Rabke, sister Lucy Reza, brothers Erwin “Sonny” Landgrebe and Leroy Landgrebe, four grandchildren Jeremiah Simmons, Mandy Schmiedlin, Erin Schmiedlin and Danaee Schmiedlin, three great grandchildren Belphoebe Simmons, Sophie Brown and Spencer Brown.
 
She is preceded in death by her parents, first husband Harold "Shine” Koenig, son Gregory “Scotty” Koenig, sisters Delores Prasek and Viola Rohan.
