Julia Sanchez

Julia Perez Sanchez, 86, of Cuero passed away Friday, September 4, 2015. She was born December 9, 1928 in Concrete to the late Candido Perez and Pomposa Vergara Perez. In 1946 Julia married the love of her life, Christobal M. Sanchez. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was also a member of Good Sheppard Church. 
She is survived by her daughters, Irene Romero of Cuero, Patsy Duarte of Waco, Manuela Romos; son, Guadalupe Sanchez of Decoma, Washington; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 30 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband; two sisters; and seven brothers.

Edna Emilie Richter Heil

Edna Emilie Richter Heil, 92, of Yorktown passed away Thursday Sept. 10, 2015. She was born on Dec. 16, 1922 to Alois and Pauline Lassig Richter near the town of Shiner, Lavaca County.

Edna was baptized on Jan. 30, 1924 at a Lutheran Church in Shiner by Rev. JCA Pfenninger, was confirmed March 17, 1940 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Yorktown by C G Hankammer. She is a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Yorktown and a member of Women of Evangelical Church. Edna received her education at Wallace Ranch School near Westhoff, Stratton School, Yoakum ISD and graduated from Yorktown ISD.

Edna married Otto P. Heil on Nov. 23, 1947. They lived in Yorktown all their married life. Edna worked at several establishments in Yorktown, the last 40 years in the legal field retiring in July 2005. During WWII she worked for the USA from 1942 to 1945.

Edna is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and God children.


Sunshine McLeod

Sunshine Criscoe McLeod, 102, of Cuero passed away Monday, September 7, 2015. She was born July 21, 1913 in Quitman, Mississippi to the late Robert Louie Criscoe and Molly Holcomb Criscoe. She graduated from Mississippi Women's College with a degree in music. Sunshine went on to marry the love of her life, Hugh M. McLeod, on June 28, 1936 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. 
She is survived by son, Hugh Milton McLeod, Jr. (Kathleen Reilly McLeod) of Cuero; grandchildren, Michael Reilly McLeod, MD of Cuero, Kelley McLeod Sullivan, MSW of Austin; great-grandchildren, Madeline Grace McLeod, Brendan Davis McLeod, Annabel Rose McLeod, all of Cuero, Elise Juliet Sullivan, Parker Elliot Sullivan, Collete Marie Sullivan, and Quinn Alexander McLeod Sullivan, all of Austin. 
She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband.

William Foster

William C. Foster, 86, of Cuero passed away peacefully on the evening of Sept. 3, 2015, surrounded by the love of his children. After graduating from Southwestern University and University of Texas Law School, Bill spent the majority of his career as an attorney in Washington, D.C. He returned home to Cuero permanently in 1996 and began his research and writing of the history of the Southwest. His final manuscript was completed in the spring of this year. 
Bill was preceded by his mother Avis Reiffert, sister Avis Marie Cochran, and many dear friends. 

Seth Courter

Seth Ryan Courter, 33, of Rosharon, Texas, passed from his life, Sunday, Aug. 31, 2015.
Seth was the son of Kelly Courter and Alicia (Clemments) Hannan, born on May 18, 1982 in Danbury, Connecticut. Seth grew up in New Fairfield, Connecticut, where at the age of 10 he met his best friend and the love of his life, Amy Drucker, in the fifth grade.  
He was a graduate from WSCU where he received his Bachelor of Arts, and then followed his true calling by completing his Bachelor of Science in Culinary Management from The Art Institute of Houston.  Seth was employed as an Executive Sous Chef at the Texas Children’s Hospital.  

Wilbert E. Hengst

Wilbert E. Hengst, 79, of Yorktown passed away Monday Aug. 31, 2015.  He was born Nov. 15, 1935 in Yorktown to the late Edwin and Lydia Hengst. He worked as a counselor at Devereux for 15 years, worked in the oilfield and worked at Walmart for 17 years.

He is survived by his wife of 14 years Kathy Hengst, sons Ronald Hengst and wife Leann, Michael Hengst and wife Linda, Rick Hengst and wife Mary and Mark Hengst and wife Jenna; stepchildren Marcia Montes and husband Roger and Ken Krause; sister Inez Bues; brother-in-law James Alston, son-in-law Kevin Kelso and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Mary Gayle Kelso and sister Doris Alston.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4 with rosary at 7 p.m. at Massey Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.


Marylyn Dromgoole

Marylyn Dromgoole passed away on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015 at the age of 78.
She is preceded in death by her late husband, William Otis Dromgoole and her son, Michael. Her late husband was the son of Tommie and Bessie Dromgoole of Karnes County. Survivors include her son, Mark Dromgoole of Sugar Land and sister, Ann Droptini of Tyler. Memorial Services were held at Christ United Methodist Chapel in Sugar Land on Sept. 2.

Ira D. "Ike" Arent

Ira D. "Ike" Arent passed away Aug. 29, 2015 after a courageous four year battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 4, 1946 in Greeley County, Nebraska to Leslie and Cleo Arent. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War as a medic. He married Nancy Warren Aug. 22, 1969. They moved to Texas three years later, living in Corpus Christi, La Grange and Seadrift. He retired from Formosa Plastics, Point Comfort, Electrical Maintainence Department in 2006 and moved to their spot of heaven outside of Yorktown. He was a life member of the VFW post 8136 Yorktown, member of the American Legion post 272 Yorktown and a member of the Vietnam Veterans of Yorktown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Larae "Bambi" Arent, and sisters Ardell(Wayne) Henkel, Neva (Derrel) Pendergast, and Bonnie (John) McMillin.


Tomasita Sims

Tomasita Sims, 82, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2015 at 9:30 p.m. in Victoria. Tomasita was born on Sept. 4, 1932 in Bloomington. She was a member of Faith Family Church in Victoria.
Tomasita is survived by her son, Richard Garcia Sr.; daughter, Linda Villa; eight grandchildren: Christopher Villa, Anthony Villa, Richard Garcia Jr., Jonathan Garcia, Eric Garcia, Sarah Garcia, Johnny Garcia and Lauren Jaramillo and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Sims and her son, Reynoldo Garcia Jr.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28 at Rosewood Funeral Chapel. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 29 at 2 p.m. with Mark Longoria officiating.

Leonard Cartwright

Leonard Cartwright, 55, of Cuero, Texas, passed away Aug. 10, 2015.  He was born November 5, 1959, in Pearsall to Eva Cartwright and the late Clifford Cartwright.
He is survived by his mother, Eva Cartwright, brother, Ralph Cartwright, sister, Lucille Price and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his girlfriend, Rosa Segura and her daughter Tera Gonzales and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Cartwright and his brother, John Cartwright.
