Kitty Kats end district 3-7

The Yorktown Kitty Kats played their last district game at home against the Three Rivers Lady Bulldogs. The Kitty Kats fell 32-52.

It was a shaky start in the first period as the Lady Bulldogs took a 2-14 lead. The Kitty Kats made some adjustments against Three Rivers’ offense and slowed down the pace for better scoring. The half ended with the Kats closing the gap 14-20.

Four minutes into play during the third period the Kats were behind by two, 19-21. Three Rivers started to press full court and half court. The Kats had difficulty making good passes causing many turnovers for the Lady Bulldogs to win 32-52.

The Kitty Kats ended the season 3-7 for district and 4-17 overall.

Lady Pirates have third seed in district playoffs

It was a four point game, 33-37 until the last five minutes before the Lady Pirates lost to Moulton 42-57 in their last district game of the season.

Nordheim coach Randy Castillo said, “We had a great three quarters. In the fourth we had too many bad possessions of not taking care of the ball, not boxing out, and poor shot selection that led to our defeat.”

The Lady Pirates finished third in district and will face runner up district 32 Tilden for playoff round in Beeville, Feb. 10 at 6 p.m.

Wildcats secure playoff round

The Yorktown Wildcats came to the reality that district playoffs may be something of the past after facing another loss  against the Three Rivers Bulldogs with a score of 59-71.

The Wildcats played at home Feb. 4 without Dos Torres who is known more for his defensive rebounds. However, it may have made little difference. Three Rivers simply out-hustled and outplayed the Wildcats offense.

Steven Herrera went four for six in free throws and the team, overall, hit half of their free throw shots. The shooting from outside seems to be hurting the Wildcats but there was and overall improvement with 29 percent making the basket. Offensive rebounding of five with 72 field goal attempts is still a weakness that Yorktown coach Scott DeMarco is still trying to overcome.

Lady Gobblers 3rd in district, host La Grange tonight

The Lady Gobblers came from behind to defeat the Lady Apaches Jan. 31 in Gonzales, 47–38. The team is third in district.

“The first half we struggled. The shots looked good but they were not going in the basket. The defense kept us in the game,” said girls coach Terrance Fryer.

Once the Lady Gobblers settled down and adjusted their tempo it was a different second half.

“The shooting had the same look as the first but they just started going in the basket,” Fryer said.
