Gobblers lose to Bulldogs in first-ever playoff meet

Gobblers to face Yoakum at Victoria Friday

 

For the second time this season, Cuero’s Gobblers will face Yoakum’s Bulldogs. The long-time rivals will face-off Friday night for the regional play-off title in Victoria at Memorial Stadium. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. and Cuero will be the home team.
 
The Gobblers (10-2) earned their area title with a 42-20 win over Geronimo Navarro last week in San Antonio.
 
Yoakum took its 44-27 area win over Devine in New Caney.
 
In their 104th meeting in October, the Gobblers took a 44-34 win over the Bulldogs.

Gobblers to face Panthers in San Antonio Friday

 

Cuero Gobbler fans are hoping for football for Thanksgiving. 
 
But first the Gobblers have to get past the Geronimo Navarro Panthers. The Gobblers and Panthers will meet Friday for a 7:30 p.m. area playoff at Heroes Stadium in San Antonio.
 
Cuero will be on the visitor’s side. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students, pre-sale. All tickets are $7 at the gate.
 
The Gobblers defeated Rio Hondo in bi-district 55-14 while the Panthers defeated Carrizo Springs 51-20 in bi-district.
 
These two teams met at this time last year when the Gobblers took the area title with a 51-44 win.

Lady Gobblers open basketball season with win

 

The Lady Gobblers played their first non-conference game against Industrial on Nov. 11 at the Cobra gym. The Lady Gobblers defeated the Lady Cobras 52-30.
 
Stats: Mary Kate Kruger: 1 assist, 1 rebound; Martina Stavinoha: 3 assists, 2 steals, 1 rebound, 1 block, 19 points; Missy Odom: 8 points, 6 rebounds, 1 steal, 2 assists; Kaelen Sievers: 4 points, 5 rebounds, 1 block; Courtney Clark: 2 points, 1 steal; Jaslynn Mathis: 8 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists; Chelsea Veit: 6 points, 3 steals, 1 block; Kyra Johnson: 3 points, 1 rebound; Chelsea Fuchs: 2 points. 8 Lady Gobblers receive all-district honors

 

Results of the Region 4 District 26 All-District awards for girls volleyball was released. Mia Knetig and Martina Stavinoha earned first team honors. Kaelen Sievers and Justyce Turner earned second team honors. Tory Littles, Mary Kate Krueger, Jaslynn Mathis and Missy Odom received honorable mention recognition.
 
Academic all-district recognition will be released later this week.
