Schendel named All-District First Team

The All-District Teams for District 15-1A Division I have been release.
 
First Team defense was senior Caleb Schendel for outside linebacker.
 
Second Team offense were senior Jacob Garcia for quarterback; senior Logan Romans for running back; and senior Grant Allman for wide receiver.
 
Second Team defense were senior Steven Perez for defensive tackle; senior Trever Reed for inside linebacker; and senior Brandon Smith for defensive back.

Green awarded All-Tourney for defense

 

The Nordheim Lady Pirates continue to make their presence known on the court that they are no pushover.
 
On Dec. 10 the Lady Pirates traveled to Runge to play the Lady Jackets.  
 
Nordheim coach Randy Castillo said, “We came out focused and ready to play. We tried some new defensive schemes which worked out very well and resulted in a 46 to 30 win.”

18 Gobblers named to all-district team

 

Eighteen Cuero High School players were named to the 2013 All-District 26–3A football team.
Sophomore Zech Hopkins was named Newcomer of the Year.
 
Junior D’Anthony Hopkins was named first-team running back. He ended district games with 273 carries for 1801 yards and 25 touch downs. 
 
Junior Colby Ebrom was named first-team tight end. He ended district games with 14 catches for 189 yards and 2 TD. He was also named second-team defensive end and second team punter.

Coles named CHS head basketball coach

 

Some people move to Cuero for work. Others move here for family. For Clint Coles it was for both and then some.
 
“I was getting married to Whitney (Dec. 20, 2012) and her family is from Canyon Lake,” Coles said. “We were looking to get closer to her family and Cuero has an unbelieveable reputation for sports so when we saw that there was an opening here, we jumped at the chance. We both were fortunate to get on coaching.”
 
Clint is the new physical education teacher at Hunt Elementary. Clint is also the new head basketball coach for the varsity team and Whitney coaches junior high school sports.

Gobblers end season, prepare for 2014

 

Before football season began Cuero head coach Travis Reeve said, “This year’s team is capable of doing great things” and so they did.
 
“You never know before the season starts what the season holds. I felt good about our football team. I thought this was a special group,” said Reeve.  “I felt like they were going to accomplish a lot. I did not know how far they would go but I did know that this was a team that was going to win a lot of football games and they were going to exceed expectations.”
 
The Gobblers lost the contest against the Sinton Pirates at the regional playoff 19–26. It was the first time the Gobblers reached this round in five years.

Gobblers lose Thorndale game

 

The Cuero High School Gobblers traveled to Thorndale Dec. 12. Thorndale took the lead in the first period and won the game 44–57.
 
Basketball head coach Clint Coles said the Gobblers lost momentum early, trailing 24–33 by the half after scoring a game-high 13 points during the second quarter.

Ebrom named to all-tournament team in Yoakum

 

The Gobbler varsity team participated in the Yoakum tournament Dec. 5–7. Junior Colby Ebrom was named to the all-tournament team.
 
The Gobblers lost the first game against Luling 51–63. Stats include D’Andre Gallagher: 10 points (2 3-points), 3 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals, made two 3-point shots; Justin Hernandez: 5 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 out of 2 free throws; D’Mond Lafond: 4 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, 2 steals, 1 out of 2 free throws; Ebrom: 29 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, 2 steals, 5 out of 10 free throws; Maison Holes: 2 rebounds; Adam Simpson: 1 rebound; Grant Diebel: 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals; Viren Vora: 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal; Jacob Diaz: 3 points (1 3-point); E.J. Johnson: 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 3 blocks, 1 steal.
