Kitty Kats rally short at semi-finals

Yorktown coach Deirdre Alexander made every attempt to approach this game no different than any other but this was not like any other game. There was more at stake and the Kitty Kats knew it.

In 2012 Yorktown played against the Burton Lady Panthers in the semifinals and lost in three games. This was the Kats opportunity of “true redemption.”

Earlier in the season Coach Alexander said, “We want to say that we are better than the first game of the season.”

The test of time held true for Yorktown as they played each and every game like it was their last.

Kats sweep in area round

The 2013 volleyball season has been one of retribution for the Yorktown Kitty Kats. They don’t think about the previous games nor do they put any thought to any of the upcoming games. It is all about the game to be played.

“We did not approach [this game] any different than we approached any other game,” said Yorktown coach Deirdre Alexander. “We did not act as if it could be our last. We talked about going out there to beat them from more than what we beat them the last time. Last time we beat them in four and we want to say that we are better than the first game of the season.”

Yorktown played Ben Bolt for the area championship in Woodsboro on Nov. 9. The Kitty Kats swept the Lady Badgers in three games staking their claim as area champions.

Wildcats end season against Shiner

The Yorktown Wildcats did not lay down after the third play of the game when Jacob Garcia threw an interception landing the Shiner Comanches at the Yorktown 29-yard line. Instead they fought back with what could have been a Wildcat victory but their own mistakes in penalties and change of strategy in the second half cost them the game 28-6.

In the first half of the game the Wildcat defense shut down the Comanche attack to only 19 yards rushing with 13 plays. Two of Shiner’s three possessions were turnovers after four plays. The only account for the Shiner’s scoring was after the interception. They were already in Yorktown territory. However that did not stop the Wildcat offense from answering back.
