Yorktown Wildcats vs Runge Yellowjackets pregame

 

The Yorktown Wildcats (2-4, 0-1) will be playing a non-district game against Runge Yellowjackets (5-1, 1-1) away on Friday, Oct. 25.
 
Yorktown is coming in with a loss against Ganado with a score of 56-21. Runge is coming in with a win over Louise 21-14.
 
The Wildcats are 5-0 against Runge. Last year the Wildcats won 52-6 and in 2011, 52-16.

Lady Pirates break losing streak

 

Nordheim coach Randy Castillo’s words of “It should be another close and fun game” rang true as the Lady Pirates beat Austin-Tivoli in five games.
 
“It was another thrilling match with the Redfish, but in the end we came together as a team and overcame the adversity to win the fifth game 15-8,” said Castillo.

The Yorktown Kittykats clinched district championships after taking Kenedy down in three games.

Yorktown Wildcats take loss 56-21

The Wildcats came back strong in the second half scoring 21 points but it was not enough to stop the Ganado rush. Ganado won 56-21.

Bulldogs hand Cuero first district loss

Cuero and Yoakum were tied early in a rain-soaked game at Bulldog Stadium but the Dogs took over and won the game 41-20. The Gobblers are now 1-1 in district.

"Glory Years" exhibit planned Nov. 1

 

The Cuero Heritage Museum has expanded the Gobbler Football History exhibit. This expanded exhibit follows the previous two exhibits (1911 to 1971) and will have team pictures and stories that chronicle the winning seasons of 1972-75. A total of 54 victories and only two losses, a 44-game winning streak, and two state championships were achieved during this brief period.
 
A reception for the exhibit will be held 4:30-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, which will give Gobbler fans plenty of time to get to the Cuero, Gonzales game. Refreshments will be served.

Goebel inducted into Gobbler Hall of Fame

 

Another of Cuero High School’s outstanding athletes was inducted into the Gobbler Hall of Fame during Friday night’s game here. Brad Goebel, Class of 1986, was an all-state quarterback that went on to star at Baylor University and spent five years in the NFL.
 
At Cuero High Goebel was the starting quarterback earning first team all-state honors in 1985 and leading the Gobblers to the 3A state finals. He then set a 3A state record for total yards in a season with 2,526 and he threw for 32 touchdowns.

Cuero prepares for Yoakum game Friday

 

The Cuero Gobblers (4-1) will face the  Yoakum Bulldogs (2-3) on Oct. 18 in Yoakum. This will be the 103rd time these two teams have met. The Gobblers lead this series 66-30-6 .
 
Cuero played Giddings last Friday and won 24-20. Yoakum played Smithville and won 29-19. 
 
Cuero is 7-2 against Yoakum in the last nine years. The last two years Cuero lost in close games 28-21 in 2012 and 25-21 in 2011. 
 
The preseason/season statistics are as follows. Cuero’s team offense averages 356 yards per game with a total of 1188 yards rushing and 592 yards passing.
 
Yoakum’s team offense averages 437.3 yards per game with a total of 1233 yards rushing and 516 yards passing.

Freshmen win first district game

The Freshman Gobblers squeaked by Giddings Oct. 10 away winning their first district game 36-30. The Freshman Gobblers are 5-1 overall.

 
Scoring for the Gobblers were Colton Blackwell, 2 TD; Wyatt Andrews, 2 TD; and Tyler Edwards 1 TD and 2 runs for the 2-point conversion; Garrett Veit pass for the 2-point conversion.

Cuero JV team undefeated

 

The JV Gobbler football team played away at Giddings Oct. 10. The Gobblers won 22-7 keeping their undefeated record of 6-0 overall and 1-0 in the district.
 
Cuero was able to move the ball effectively both on the ground and in the air. The offensive line played great providing running lanes and great pass protection.
 
Scoring for the Gobblers were Jareed Edwards, Elex Martinez, and Rodney Evan.
