Coaches' clarification to "practice"

Yorktown News-View issue Sept. 25 posted an article titled Kitty Kats continue winning. The reporter quoted Coach Alexander saying, “Gwosdz has not been with us in practice so the players were not playing as a unit.”

To clarify any misunderstanding Alexander clarified her comment by saying, “I knew things wouldn’t look good for the game because we hadn’t had everyone at practice. Emily Guerrero had been out with an injury and had not been able to practice for over a week.”

Wildcats celebrate win over Pettus Eagles 29-19

Yorktown’s Wildcats celebrated homecoming Friday here against the Pettus Eagles. The celebration almost took a detour as the Cats spotted the visitors 13 points before taking control and putting up a 29-19 win.

It was the second win of the young season for the Wildcats and the squad will take this Friday off with an open date before they travel to Three Rivers for the start of district contests.

The Eagles grabbed the Wildcat’s attention early as they took the kick-off and needed only three plays to score the game’s first points. The score came on a 47-yd. run  just 30-seconds into the game. The extra point try failed and Pettus was up 6-0.

But they were not through.

Lady Pirates came up from behind but not in time

It did not have the happy ending that Nordheim Lady Pirates had hoped for when they lost against the Runge Yellowjackets on Sept. 24 in three games.

The first game the Lady Pirates started out from behind 0-7. Nordheim coach Randy Castillo called a time out to help the girls gain control and go back out and play as they have been taught. Brittny Bernier came out and came up with two blocks at the net back-to-back. While she served she also came up with four aces that help closed the gap 7-11. However the Yellowjackets took the first game 13-25.

Castillo said, “We simply didn't show up to play. We had no communication and the team-mates were not holding each other accountable for the lack of effort that was taking place.”
