Santiago "Jim" Garza, 75, of Cuero, passed away Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009. He was born Sept. 23, 1934, in Cuero, to the late Maria Rocha and Matias Garza. He was a ranch laborer.
He is survived by his daughter, Diana (Robert) Ordonez of Victoria; son, Santiago "Jim" Garza Jr. of Cuero; sisters, Molly "Jere" Higgins of Houston, Jane (Charles) Shuhart of Palestine, Connie Luman of Houston, Cris Gordon of Palestine, Cris (Walter) Davis of Baytown, Mary (Willie) Molina of Yorktown, and Virginia Garza of Pasadena; brother, Pete (Dixie) Basquez of Waelder; and grandchildren, Sean Torres of Bloomington, Duane Contreras of Hearne, and Erica De La Rosa of Yoakum.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sons, Ruben Garza and Rick Garza.
Visitation was 6-7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m., at Freund Funeral Home.
Funeral Mass Monday at Freund Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Terry Brown officiating. Interment followed at San Pedro Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Sean Torres, Harold Miller, Tony De La Rosa, Doug Williams, Robbie Ordonez, and Jacob Ordonez.
Honorary pallbearers: Otto Borchers, Earl Zumwalt, Marilyn Cheatham, Bobby DeBord, and Dr. Reese.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, AIDS Foundation, or Breast Cancer.
