Wilfred Hugo Bachle

Wilfred Hugo Bachle died in California on October 21, 2009. He was born in Austin, Texas on July 3, 1924 to Marie (Schlennstedt) and Hugo Bachle, whileHugo was doing graduate work at The university of Texas.
Wilfred started school in San Antonio, then Austin and finished at Nordheim in 1941. After one year at Texas A&M he joined the Air Force for WW II. He trained for photo reconnaissance and at the end of WWII he was sent to Japan for photo flights over Korea. He made a forced landing in Japan and bailed out over Korea, where he injured his knee while ejecting. He remained in the Air Force Reserves after he returned.
On July 1, 1944 Wilfred married Janelle Dahse of Nordheim at St.Paul Lutheran Church where they were both confirmed. After WW II they (and son Robert) moved to College Station where Wilfred graduated in 1950 with a Masters degree in Aeronautical Engineering. They moved to Long Beach, California where most of his career was spent with Ford Aerospace. At one time he worked on a 'soil sampler for Mars'. His last project before retirement was to help fit twohelicopters with FLIR pods to guide the accuracy of air strikes in the Gulf War in Iraq.
Wilfred was preceded in death by his wife Janelle and his parents. He is survived by his two sons Robert Bachle and wife Louise, and a step granddaughter Lora Armfield, her husband Richard, and three great grandchildren; David Bachle and wife Laura, and his nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Also by his sisters Nelda and husband Bob Moffatt of Houston and Mildred Stinson of Austin.
