Pep rally Friday on Main
There will be a pep rally on Friday, December 4, on Main Street beginning at 6:30 p.m. All businesses are encouraged to catch the Gobbler Spirit and decorate their stores, windows, and marquee signs to cheer on the Gobblers as they prepare for the semi-final game.

Bus tickets to playoff
Gobbler fan busses will be available to transport fans on a first come first served basis to the Semi-Final playoff game in Huntsville Saturday. The cost will be $30 per person and does not include a game ticket. The busses will load in the high school parking lot at 1:00 p.m. Saturday and depart at 1:30 p.m. For more information or to book your seat, please call 275-2725.

St. Michael’s arts, crafts
The annual St. Michael’s Home and School Association “Santa’s Arts and Crafts Sale” will take place on Saturday, December 5th at the St. Michael’s Parish Hall. Breakfast and lunch will be served. Santa will be available for pictures. A country store and silent auction will also be held. Registration is now being accepted for vendors to participate in this event. Project Graduation dinner
Project Graduation will serve a lasagna dinner on Thursday December 3rd, from 5-7 p.m. at Millies on Main. Tickets are $10 and available at Rath Propane or CHS Seniors. All proceeds will go to Project Graduation. Enjoy evening dining and shopping in downtown Cuero. Shops will be open until 8 p.m. This is a Project Graduation and Cuero Business Co-Op partnership event.

Meyersville play set
The Meyersville School will present “The Lost Treasure” at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 10. The Christmas Program is written and directed by Cindy Slovacek, a teacher at the school. The play will be in the gym and everyone is invited to attend.

Shopping safety tips
Parents and interested citizens are invited to hear Michael Marr, Cuero Independent School District Resource Officer, speak about safety during the upcoming holidays on Wednesday, Dec. 16. Officer Marr will give tips on shopping safety, keeping your children out of trouble during the holidays and other safety issues parents encounter during the holiday season. The public is invited to attend this free program which will be held at the Gobbler Getaway (formerly the Cuero High School cafeteria) from 11:45 – 1:00 noon. Snacks will be provided as well as babysitting and transportation. Please call 275-9408 for more information.

Library closed for repairs
Cuero Public Library will be closed for repairs Monday, December 7 thru Saturday, December 12. No overdue fines will be charged for material due during this time.

Food, coats needed
Cuero ISD Social Services is accepting donations of non-perishable food items, new coats or hooded sweatshirts and school supplies for needy families through Dec. 14. If you can make a donation contact Rhonda Patek at 275-1217, Lucy Gonzalez at 275-1359 or Debra Baros at 275-8874.

Two ribbon cuttings
Cuero Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture will host a duel ribbon cutting for Power Clean Carpet Cleaning Service, owned by David Brown and Fresh Start Fellowship Church, Terry Brown, Pastor on Thursday, Dec. 10 at 10 a.m. Both ribbon cuttings will be held at 410 E. Broadway. The public is invited to attend.

Men’s groups to break
The Arneckeville Men's Breakfast Group will take a Christmas break during December and will resume its schedule Jan. 5 of meeting for breakfast at 6:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Arneckeville. All men of the community are invited to attend in 2010, the first and third Tuesday each month.

Country Opry Dec. 17
On the third Thursday of each month Cuero Pilot Club hosts the Cuero Country Opry at the VFW hall, Highway 183 North. The next performance is Thursday, Dec. 17. Dinner (catered by Werner’s of Shiner) is served at 5:30; the show follows at 7:00. Tickets are $10.00 and may be purchased in advance from any Pilot Club member, the Cuero Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture, Full-O-Pep Ranch & Garden Center, Prosperity Bank, Kleinecke Flower Shop or Reuss Pharmacy. Tickets for just the show are $5.00 at the door. Takeout dinners are also available from Werner’s for $6.00. For more information call Kay at 275-6334.

Bake sale Friday
Cuero Dinter Unit #3 American Legion Auxiliary is having a bake sale at Wal Mart on Dec. 4 from 8:00 - 6:00. Members are asked to bring baked goods before 8:00 a.m. Also help is needed. Call 564-5866 if you can help.

Relay for Life rally
DeWitt County Relay for Life will have its Kick-Off Rally on Monday, Dec. 7, at 6 p.m. at LifeWay Baptist Church Auditorium. Team captains are encouraged to attend. Everyone is invited to join the kickoff to 2010 DeWitt County Relay for Life. For more information call Pat Villa at 277-8929.

TPA meets Monday
Traveler’s Protective Association will meet at Bahnhof Cafe Monday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 a.m. All members are urged to attend.

Play set for Dec. 17
Take a waltz down memory lane. The new Musical Theatre class will present “A Circle of Four” written and co-directed by Sharon Ernster with musical direction by Heather Turk. The short play traces the friendship of four girls from 1969 through 1994. Tickets are available at the door. Adults $5, all students free. It will be at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 17, in the High School Cafetorium.

Soup, Sermon Friday
Soup and Sermon will be held this Friday, December 4th, at Fresh Start Fellowship located at 410 E. Broadway. The event will begin at noon.

Yoakum Show Tuesday
Yoakum Rotary Club will host the annual Country Music USA Christmas Show on Tuesday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m. at Yoakum Community Center. Cost is $4 per person. A smoked ham dinner will be served starting at 5 p.m. at a cost of $6 per plate. Dine in or meals to go at the back door. Music will feature Jerry Bennett from Branson, Missouri, Chris Rybak, John Wayne Shulz and The Siekers.

Nativity scene in Yoakum
Experience a trip to Bethlehem by driving through the Live Nativity, to be held Sunday, Dec. 13 from 6-8 p.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Yoakum. Holy Cross is located on Highway 77A near the intersection of Hwy 77A and Hwy 111. You will enter the drive-through from Nelson Street and exit onto Hwy 77A. Diabetic Support Group
Diabetic Support Group meets the second Thursday of each month at First United Methodist Church located at 211 N. Clinton from 10 to 11.

Ministers meet weekly
Pastors and church leaders are invited to join Cuero Area Ministerial Alliance which meets each Monday at Cuero Assembly of God at 8 a.m. for an interdenominational time of prayer and fellowship.

Sr. Citizen party plan
DeWitt County Senior Citizens Center will hold its annual Christmas party on December 4 at 10 a.m. Any companies or citizens that may have door prizes to donate can contact Joyce Eichhorn, director, at 361-564-2155.

Vietnam Vets memorial
The Vietnam Vets are planning a monument to all DeWitt County Vietnam war veterans. The monument will consist of a mounted Huwe chopper, individual monuments for vets who died in Vietnam, and nine flags with night lighting. The vets are asking for donations to help with the purchase of the chopper and other materials to make their dream a reality. Donations for the project may be given to any Vietnam Vet member or dropped off at Citizens Bank in Yorktown. All donations are greatly appreciated and needed as soon as possible because they want to have the memorial installed by Memorial Day, 2010.

Open late in December
Shop until 8 pm Thursdays in December till Christmas. Shop from 5-8 and register for $100 in Cuero Bucks each week. Follow the Gift Trail for participating merchants. Sponsored by the Cuero Business Co-Op.

Little Dribblers sign-up
Cuero Little Dribblers Basketball 2009-2010 will have a “Last Chance Sign-up” on December 2 from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm at the Cuero Intermediate School Library. Registration is $50 and the league will include three age divisions. Primary division ages 6-7, Junior division ages 8-9, and Senior division ages 10-11. The Senior division will include all 6th graders that are 12 years old. Divisions will be classified by the age as of August 1, 2009 and you must have a birth certificate at registration. Yorktown Christmas Bazaar
The Fourth Annual Christmas Bazaar will be held at the Yorktown Community Hall on December 5. Doors will open at 9 a.m. and scheduled closing is at 2 p.m. Santa's Cafe will be open at 9 a.m. for coffee, tea, cocoa and some sweets to enjoy. At 11 a.m. serving will begin for homemade soup (potato, chicken noodle and taco). Along with soups and sandwiches (chicken, ham, beef) they will also have homemade cakes, cookies, sweet rolls, cookies and candy for sale. Start your Saturday of shopping off with a stop at the Yorktown Community Hall, for lots of fun, food and great holiday gifts for all. Contact Dee at 361-935-6124 for information about booth rental.

Herman Lodge party
Yorktown Sons of Herman Lodge will hold their annual Christmas party on December 9 at the Lodge hall. Festivities will begin with a social hour at 6 p.m. Roast turkey will be provided and members are asked to bring a side dish.  There will be a unisex gift exchange with value of $10. Recipients of long-term membership pins will be honored.

Charlie Brown Christmas
Lifeway Baptist Church presents Charlie Brown Christmas play on December 8, beginning at 7 pm at Lifeway Baptist Church. This event is free to the public.

Tamale orders
Pre-sale tamales will be available for December 19 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Hall starting at 8:00 a.m. Tamales will be $8.00 per dozen. Also at the Parish Hall will be a Bake Sale and Garage Sale also starting at 8:00 a.m. For pre-sale tamales call Josephine at (361) 275-6470.

Volunteers needed here
Caring volunteers are needed for rewarding work as advocates for nursing home residents. Ombudsmen visit nursing homes to promote quality care and to protect resident’s rights. Free initial and ongoing training is provided and no prior experience is required. Volunteers are needed in DeWitt county. If you are that special person who enjoys helping others, please contact Barbara Zimmerman, Elder Rights Coordinator at the Golden Crescent Regional Planning Commission Area Agency on Aging at (361) 578-1587.

Census job training
For those interested in Census 2010 jobs, testing will be in Cuero on Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Cuero Community Hospital Education Classroom at 5:30 p.m.; Wed., Dec. 16, at Cuero Library at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.; and Tuesday, Dec. 29, at Cuero Library, 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Applicants may also call toll free 1-866-861-2010 to schedule a testing date.
