 (Posted 12/30/2009 08:00 am)
2009 was a year of ups and downs for the Cuero Gobblers. The loss of a teammate before the season, thirteens straight wins and an eighth straight district title, and a thrilling/heartbreaking loss in the state semi-finals. Since the end of the season, the post season accolades have been rolling in with more coming over the weeknd.
The Victoria Advocate announced its All-Area team and for the second year in a row, Cuero’s Tyler Arndt was named Player of the Year. To go along with his senior season stats of 2,379 passing yards and 27 TD’s, 164 rushing yards and 5 TD’s, Arndt will also be remembered for his career numbers. Arndt was a perfect 14-0 against District opponents, and never lost a game at Gobbler Stadium. For his career Arndt threw for 7,088 yards and 75 TD’s with only 12 INT’s.
Joining Arndt was sensational sophomore running back Trent Jackson whose 2,526 rushing yards and 33 TD’s earned him Offensive Player of the Year honors.
First team honors were given to senior center Logan Pickett, junior tight end Tanner Hoffman, and junior utility player Andrew Thibodeaux.  Second team honors were given to Monte Green for his play in the secondary.
Honorable mention honors were given to Adam Hengst, Ryan Barrientez, Austin Lind, and Nick Gamez.
