Frosh/JV Gobblers begin New Year hardwood action

The Freshmen and Junior Varsity Gobblers returned to the court after their Christmas break, and have had mixed results.
On January 5, the Freshmen Gobblers dropped a nail-biter to Stockale 27-25 before the home fans. The Gobblers trailed by two at the end of the first quarter and at halftime, before taking a two point lead at the end of three quarters.
“We played off at times in the game, and really played as a team times,” said Coach Hudson Bates. “John Aguilar had a good game on defense.”
Scoring Line: Dreton Hernandez 2, John Aguilar 7, Johnathan Laqua 8, Caleb Harvey 8.
The junior varsity’s contest against Stockdale was every bit as exciting, but with a different result. The Gobblers came away with a 28-25 win after trailing by three going into the fourth quarter.
“The boys came out, and played a solid defensive game,” said the Gobblers coach. “We are starting to come together as a team, and feed off one another.”
Scoring Line: Van Davis 9, Austin Means 9, Darius Mathis 6, Devante Holmen 2, Darian Eagles 2.
After a win over Stockdale, the Gobbelrs hit the road to take on the LaGrange Leopards. Starting five for the Gobblers included Devante Holmen, Austin Means, Darius Mathis, Devin Matson, and Darian Eagles.
The Gobblers and the Leopards were tied at nine after one quarter, but La Grange extended to a five point lead at halftime, and extended that lead to 46-27 by the end of the game.
Scoring Line: Austin Means 12, Devante Homan 4, Robert Gray 3, Van Davis 3, Johnathan Francis, Devin Matson 2.
