Jail dedication March 13
There will be a dedication ceremony for the new DeWitt County Law Enforcement Center on Saturday, March 13, at 10 a.m. It will be at the jail and the public is invited to attend. There will be tours and open house of the new facility. The county-wide Jail Study Committee will be recognized.

St. Michael’s registration
St. Michael’s School will hold registration for the 2010-2011 school year throughout the month of March. In conjunction with registration, and to help facilitate those who work during normal school hours, an open house and evening registration will be held on Thursday, March 11, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Prospective families will be able to visit the classrooms and meet the teachers. Lions Pork Dinner Sunday
Cuero Lions Club will have its annual BBQ Pork Dinner with all the trimmings on Sunday, March 21, from 11 to 1 at Cuero City Park Anna Koch Pavilion. Tickets at $8 in advance available from Lions members or at The Cuero Record. Drive-thru only. Proceeds benefit Lions’ charities.

Award winning speaker at CHS
In 2000, Chris Sandy was a pretty normal 22 year old kid who enjoyed playing sports, fishing and hanging out with his friends. On April 11, 2000 his normal life came to an abrupt end when Chris decided to get drunk and drive on a country road which led to a fatal accident. Plan to hear Chris Sandy, a former prison inmate's powerful story as he delivers his life changing message at the Cuero High School's girls gym on Friday, March 12 at 8:15 a.m. In 2008 Chris Sandy's story and live presentation were developed into an award-winning television documentary. In 2009 he was the recipient of two EMMY Awards. Call the Cuero ISD Parenting Team at 275-9408 for more information.

Spring Clean-Up dates
The Spring Clean-Up dates in Cuero are through Saturday, March 20. Individuals needing assistance in moving their items or needing trash pick-up, must call the Chamber office at 275-2112 no later then Friday March 12. If your name is not on the list by this date, it will be your responsibility to dispose of your items properly.

Butterfly scene donations
The December Events Committee and Cuero Relay for Life are taking donations through March 10 to add another butterfly to the butterfly scene for Christmas in the Park. Donors of $75 or more will be recognized with signage. Donations of any amount are welcome and will be applied to the scene and wil not be used for Relay for Life. To donate to the Butterfly ($1700), please call Jo Ann Edge by March 10, 361-275-2125, cueroed2@dewittec.net.

Chicken Feast at Lindenau
Lindenau Rifle Club announces their annual Chicken Feast sponsored by club members with proceeds used for the preservation of the Hall. Dine in or take out pit cooked chicken with all the trimmings will be Sunday, March 14, 11:00 am – 1:30 pm. Advance tickets sales $7.50 and $8.00 at the door. Trotter parent meeting
There will be a Cuero High School Trotter tryout parent information meeting Thursday, March 11, at 6:30 p.m. at CHS Library. This meeting is mandatory if you plan to tryout for the 2010-2011 Trotter Team. Tryout date is March 31. Contact Laura Marie for more information or questions: lmarie@cueroisd.org.

Cuero Open House March 27
Spring into Cuero with the Cuero Business Co-op as they host the Annual Spring Open House Event on Saturday, March 27. Enjoy refreshments and shop specials with friends at participating CBC member businesses. For more information call the Chamber office at 361 275-2112.

Lent Shrimp Dinner set
The Knights of Columbus Council #1682 will be hosting its Annual Lent Shrimp Dinner on Sunday, March 14, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Michael’s Hall in Cuero. The meal will include fried shrimp, rice, cole slaw, and hushpuppies. tea or coffee will be available at the hall only. Plates to go will be available. Advance tickets for $7.00 are available from any KC member. Cost at the door is also $7. Proceeds from the meal are used for scholarships and various other charities of the Knights of Columbus.

CAMAL House hours
The CAMAL House will be open to distribute food on Thursday March 11, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. and again on March 25th from 2 - 6 p.m.

VFW meeting Thurs.
Cuero VFW will hold a meeting on March 11. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. Members are asked to bring a side dish or dessert.

Choir performs Monday
The members of the combined Cuero High School Choir and singers of the community of Cuero would like to invite the public to hear the New York concert in advance, next Monday evening, March 15 at the First Baptist Church at 7 p.m. as a thank you for all the support the choir has received from the community on this venture.

KCB Garage Sale March 27
Keep Cuero Beautiful Committee is sponsoring their bi-annual Garage Sale on Saturday, March 27 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cuero Park Pavilion. The committee is accepting booth applications at the Cuero Chamber of Commerce. For more information call the Chamber at 275-2112. Booth fees benefit the Keep Cuero Beautiful Committee and will be used for beautification projects in Cuero.

Night golf March 19
Mark your calendars for a unique and fun evening of "Glow Ball Golf", Friday, March 19. A meal will be hosted and served by Henry and Kathy Luddeke and Byron and Deanna Wolf at 6 p.m. Bring your flashlights for the after dark tournament with glow balls. Golf carts, snacks, and drinks are available at the Golf Pro-shop. All spouses and families are invited to join their golfers for a fun evening of 'Moon Light Golf'. The Golf Association invites the community to come visit the recently remodeled Pro-Shop. Weather permitting; the new covered patio will be utilized for the event. Christmas scene deadline
The deadline for ordering new scenes at 1/2 price for Christmas in the Park has been extended to March 10 by the December Events Committee. For information about purchasing scenes of making a monetary donation, please call Jo Ann Edge, 361-275-2125; cueroed2@dewittec.net.

Band barbecue March 28
Cuero Band Parents will be hosting a barbecue plate lunch on Sunday, March 26 at the Amercian Legion Hall to benefit the Gobbler Band. Tickets are on sale now for $7. Head Start workshop
The Advocates for Children and Families, Inc. Head Start Child Development Program is offering a workshop for the parents of Head Start children who will start kindergarten in August. The workshop is entitled “All About Kindergarten” and will be held at the Cuero Head Start Center at 312 Dunn Street on Thursday, March 11 at 3:30 p.m. A kindergarten teacher from John C. Westhoff church anniversary
St. Thomas Baptist Church in Westhoff would like to invite the public to their 101st Church Anniversary and Homecoming on March 14, beginning at 3 p.m. Guest speaker will be Rev. Marvin Carpenter of Beth Elder Baptist Church in Yoakum. Joining Rev. Carpenter will be the choir, ushers and congregation of Beth Elder Baptist Church. Mistress of Ceremonies will be Sister Ruby Francis.

Taste of Trail date set
Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum board of directors has set April 17 as the date for “Taste of the Trail,” the biennial fundraiser for the museum. “Taste of the Trail” will be held at the Robert Oliver Ranch, and will be a fun evening of food, libations, auctions, and entertainment to celebrate the area’s ranching and cowboy heritage. Invitations will be sent and ticketing information made available in early March. Diabetes classes in March
Do Well Be Well Diabetes classes will be offered by Texas AgriLife Extension. County Extension Agent Diana M. Weise will be conducting the classes. Cooking schools are scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. at the Friar Ag. Building. Each educational class will contain different information and new recipes. Class dates are March 10, 24, and 31. Call 275-0816 to reserve a seat. Participants will learn information about diabetes as well as how to modify recipes for persons with diabetes. Classes are being co-sponsored by H.E.B. and WalMart of Cuero.

CHS blood drive March 23
CHS Student Council will be sponsoring a Blood Drive on March 23 from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome. This event will be held in the CHS old cafeteria.

Easter bake sale
St. Michael’s Altar Society member Lorene Stokes has been chosen as the outstanding member of this past year. She was recognized and honored at Mass at St. Michael’s Catholic Church on February 28, and a rosary was presented to her. The Altar Society has announced their upcoming Easter Bake Sale which will be held on Friday, March 26, beginning at 7:30 a.m. in St. Michael’s Parish Hall. Cakes, other various baked goods, breakfast tacos, and coffee will be available.

Potato Bake lunch
The Lifft Group of the First United Methodist Church will have their annual Potato Bake Luncheon on Friday, March 26, at Faith Hall. Lunch includes all the fixings, salad, tea, and dessert.  Tickets are $7.00 and can be purchased from any member of the group or are available from the church office. Dine in or take our plates will be available. Serving will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Benefit raffle March 20
The $10.00 tickets for a benefit raffle to help cover the funeral expenses of Michael Chandler are available through Barbara Chandler at 564-3797 or Cheryl Ortiz at 550-4959. Only 500 tickets will be sold. First prize is a Weatherby 270 with Nikon 4x9x40 scope. Second prize is a guided fishing trip for four with hotel accomodations in Port Aransas. The drawing will be held Saturday, March 20 at the American Legion Hall in Cuero. You do not need to be present to win.

Methodist Men BBQ
United Methodist Men will be selling BBQ Porkloin, ribs, and sausage on Saturday, April 3 from 11 - 1. Prices will be $20 for 1/2 loins, $15 for a rack of ribs, and $5 for a link of sausage. Baked items from the Lifft Ladies will also be on sale. Some of these desserts will include, cakes, cookies, pies and cobbler. You can pick up tickets from any United Methodist men or Kimberley at the church office.

Revival services Friday
Bro. David Terrell will be in revival services at New Testament Holiness Church on Friday, March 12 from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. Jesus Christ, the Same Yesterday, Today, and Forever. The public is invited to these services.  Bring you family, friends, and those in need of prayer.  Call 361-277-3513.

Women of the Bible

French Spring Fling April 9
John C. French Elementary will be having their annual PTO Spring Fling Carnival on Friday, April 9, from 5 to 8 p.m. All proceeds go to the PTO for field trips, library books and other campus needs. There will be a raffle, silent auction, food and games for all ages.

European trip planned
Mrs. Tresa Urbanovsky will once again be sponsoring an 11 day trip to Europe. The ‘Best of England, Scotland, and Ireland’ will cost $3,510 and includes airfare, transfers, motorcoach bus, tour director, local city guides, overnight accomodations, buffet breakfast and four dinners (including beer and wine). TSU mixer date
Join fellow SWT and Texas State graduates for the Texas State University alumni mixer for the Victoria area. Enjoy appetizers, door prizes and social networking at LuRaq’s Restaurant (13861 US Hwy 77- 361.573.2900) in Victoria on Thursday, March 11, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Greater Victoria chapter was created so that you can network with fellow SWT and Texas State former students as well as find out interesting topics about the university. This event is for anyone who ever attended SWT or Texas State and you don’t have to be a member of the alumni association. Pastors and church leaders are invited to join Cuero Area Ministerial Alliance which meets each Monday at First Baptist Church of Cuero at 8 a.m. for an interdenominational time of prayer and fellowship.

Diabetic Support Group meets the second Thursday of each month at First United Methodist Church located at 211 N. Clinton from 10 to 11.

Vietnam Vet names needed
Anyone serving in the military during the Vietnam crisis between the years of 1962-1975 regardless of station, please notify Rev. Vietnam Vet brick project
Vietnam Vets are selling bricks for $50 each to be installed at the Vietnam Memorial which is to be constructed along SH 72 across from Aunt Di’s in Yorktown. Bricks will be inscribed. Contact Rev. John Jackson at 361-275-1207 or any Vietnam Vet for more information or to purchase a brick.

Anyone knowing of an individual killed in action in Vietnam, call the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce (361)564-2661 with the person’s name, date of birth, date killed in action so their name may be inscribed on a headstone at the DeWitt County Vietnam Memorial to be constructed in Yorktown.

For those interested in Census 2010 jobs, testing will be Wednesday, March 10, at Library from 10:30 to 2; Thursday, March 11, at Best Western Park Heights Inn at 5:30 p.m.; Saturday, March 13, at Cuero High School Cafeteria at 9 a.m.; and Wednesday, March 17, at Cuero Library, at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Applicants may also call toll free 1-866-861-2010 to schedule a testing date.
