Jessie Vernon Parent

Jessie Vernon Parent of Kiowa, Oklahoma died Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at his home at the age of 74 with his family at his bedside.
Jesse was born June 2, 1935 in Pittsburg, Oklahoma to Glee and Lola Belle (Parker) Parent. Jessie joined the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. Following his military service, he worked as a Aeronautic Engineer for Aerojet Aerospace in California working on the Spacecraft. He moved back to Oklahoma to be closer to his family and married Patsy Hardung in 1975. He worked as a heavy equipment mechanic before his retirement.
He is survived by his wife Patsy of the home; sons, Jessie Vernon Parent Jr. and wife Spring of LaPortue, Texas, David Allen Parent and wife Marilyn of Logansport, Louisiana, William Glee Parent and wife Shelley of Seattle, Washington, Gary Lynn Parent of Logansport, Louisiana; daughter, DeVaLaRee Renshaw and husband Randy of Joaquin, Texas; sister Ina Marie Dahlquist and husband Bill of Hemet, California; twelve grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; Uncle Clifton “Fuzzy”, Uncle Joe, Bruno the family dog and numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Jessie is preceded in death by his parents, Glee and Lola Parent; sister, Anna Lee Vaughn; brother, Johnny Parent and nephew Dennis Vaughn.
Full military honors at a graveside funeral service was held at 10 a.m. on January 16, 2010, at Pine Top Cemetery, Pittsburg, Oklahoma with Rev. Loman Parent and Rev. James Crowson officiating. Interment followed. Military honors provided by the Fort Sill Honor Guard, Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
Pallbearers included: William Parent, Jessie Vernon Parent Jr., David Parent, Gary Parent, George Johnston and Alfred Nalley.
Honorary Pallbearers included: Don Hernandez, Leon O’Dell, James Weaver, Donald Parent, Jimmy Neal and Bear Gilliam, and nephews Allan Crawley and Mark Crawley of Cuero, Texas.
Jesse was a member of the VFW, American Legion, NRA and the Kiowa Volunteer Fire Department.
Jesse and Patsy lived in Cuero from 1974 - 1980 while he worked for Compton Trucking Co. He enjoyed they yearly Turkeyfest, gardening, feeding wildlife, volunteer work and his small engine repair shop.

Juan "Johnny" Hernandez, 59, of Cuero, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010. He was born Feb. 2, 1950, in Cuero, to the late Damacio R. and Mary S. Hernandez. He was an automotive mechanic and a U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie Hallmark Hernandez of Cuero; daughter, Cassandra Hernandez of Cuero; sons, Donovan Cervantes and Chris Cervantes, both of Cuero; sisters, Gloria Millsap of Clute, Dora Carrisalez of Thomaston, Maria de la Santos of Hawaii, Theresa Gonzales of Victoria, and Carmen Hernandez of Cuero; brothers, Damacio Hernandez Jr. and Joe Hernandez, both of Lake McQueeny, Lupe Hernandez of San Antonio, and Jessie Hernandez of Thomaston; and grandchildren, Kennan Mark and Darrion Brazil, both of Cuero.
Visitation was held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m., at Freund Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, the Rev. Kirby Hlavaty officiating. Interment followed at Hillside Cemetery.

Lillian Hedges Havard, 83, of Cuero, passed away Friday, Jan. 29, 2010. She was born Oct. 27, 1926, in Cuero, to the late Charles Russell Hedges and Angeline Frenzel Hedges of Cuero.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Miller of Round Rock and Mary Lucas of Cuero; son, Steve Hawkins of Corpus Christi; sisters, Wanda Youne of Portland, Ore. And Gala Hopwood of Corpus Christi; brothers, William Hedges of Corpus Christi and James Hedges of Georgetown; and six grandchildren.
Visitation was held 5:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at Freund Chapel. The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, at Freund Chapel, Father Kirby Hlavaty officiating. Interment followed at Hillside Cemetery. Memorials: St. Michael's Church.

Maury Flemming Botelho

Maury Flemming Botelho, 95, passed away Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010. Maury was born Aug. 15, 1914, in Concrete. Maury loved life and lived it to the fullest. She ran a motel in Santa Cruz. She met and married C.A. "Bunny" Botehlo in San Jose. She was secretary to the principal of an elementary school in San Jose. After her retirement, she traveled extensively with friends and to see her family scattered about the United States. She never met a stranger and everyone who knew her found her to be their best friend.
The family wishes to thank all the personnel at Trail Lake Nursing Home and Vitas Hospice Group for their excellent care of her during her stay there.
Maury is survived by brothers, Finn Flemming of Cuero and Lanny Flemming of San Jose; her sister-in-law, Helen Flemming of Maui, Hawaii; aunt, Marie McCormick of Arlington; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins who adored her.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Moore Funeral Home-Bowen Chapel. Interment: Oak Hill Memorial Park, San Jose, Calif. Visitation: The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Richmond Gunn, age 87 of Gonzales, formerly of Elgin passed away Saturday, January 23, 2010. Richmond was born in Elgin, Texas to Marlin and Maudie Gunn April 29, 1922.
He loved being a rancher, and raising cattle, he served in the US Navy.
He is survived by his wife Retha Gunn, stepchildren Penne Berry of Kerens, Texas, Arlene Riggs of Irving, Texas, John Capehart of Roswell, New Mexico, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Graveside services will be held 1:00pm Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Elgin Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jones Family Funeral Home Elgin, Texas.

Willie J. Self, 78, of Cuero passed away Monday, January 25, 2010. He was born September 29, 1931 in Lawton, Oklahoma to the late Estes Willie and Edith Pauline Self. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Eva Gonzales Self. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Neoma Lee Hermeson.
Services will be held Wednesday, January 27, 2010, 2 p.m., at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Bill Gleason officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Hillside Cemetery.
