Ink Links inspires shared moments, memories

There’s no question of creativity in Cuero; from murals to crafts and photography displays, the town spews artistic talent. Now, thanks to Cuero ISD’s $1.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Innovative Approaches to Literacy Project, folks have a new way to express themselves.

Ink Links, a memoir writing group, is Cuero ISD’s latest evening venture, which serves as a place where writers can share their life stories, along with receiving workshop-like feedback for revisions. Led by volunteer Linda Thamm, writer and former teacher, and spearheaded by grant director Jennifer Hudgeons, Ink Links has made significant headway in just two months.

Using works like Stephen King’s On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft, and Maureen Murdock’s The Heroine’s Journey as both structure for curriculum and inspiration, Thamm looks to offer writers a learning experience, as well as the chance to share their work.

“This is a very personal and very serious endeavor for me,” Thamm stated during an interview.  

“I have to give [Jennifer Hudgeons] a tremendous amount of credit–I just feel honored that I can be a part of this wonderful thing in Cuero.”

Thamm explained that she was inspired to help with Ink Links after she attended Jane Matthew’s writing group in Victoria in 1995 with the same name.
