For most young sports players the dream starts out at a young age. The dream to make it to the next level and keep playing the game you love. Not very many athletes get the opportunity, but for Cuero’s Exavier Durham and LeBron Johnson the reality became official this past Wednesday, Feb. 2, on national signing day. With a packed house at the Cuero ISD Administration Building, the support for Durham and Johnson showed just how much they mean to the Gobbler football program. The Cuero wide receiving duo signed their letters of intent to go play the same position down in Kingsville for the Javelinas.

When it comes to talent at the wide receiver position, the Javelinas will be getting two of the very best from this area. As seniors, Durham and Johnson both played critical roles for the 21-22 team. The Gobbler football team would finish the season with a record of (13-2, 5-0). The Gobblers were crowned district champions and had a class 4A Divison II state semifinals appearance that ended the season just one game shy of the state championship. Both players nabbed over 1,000 yard receiving seasons, something you do not typically see happen for two wide receivers in the same season at Cuero, if ever. Both Durham and Johnson have been key contributors for the Gobbler football team that has won 11 straight games at home dating back over the past two seasons.
