This past weekend, the Ernest E Sertuche Memorial Foundation held their annual dominoe tournament at the Yorktown Community Hall. Jerry Jaeger took the honor of first place, with Albert Brown claiming second.

The Tournament also featured a silent auction and a raffle with 20 different prizes ranging from gift cards up to a 50-inch smart tv. All raffle prizes were donations from local individuals and businesses.

The foundation is a nonprofit that was able to give 10 scholarships to local 2018 graduates. The namesake, Ernest E Sertuche, was a long time Yorktown Little League coach and the DeWitt County Juvenile Probation officer and Chief. Sertuche passed from this world in April of 2016.

The year after his passing, the nonprofit foundation was formed with a focus on helping youth succedd with a solid foundation. The deep-seated belief driving the foundation is plain, and very evident on their Facebook page with the word’s “Everyone deserves a second chance” emblazoned as the profile picture.

On September 15, the Ernest E Sertuche Memorial Foundation will be holding an adult co-ed softball tournament at the Cuero Little League Complex. The tournament is open to teams with up to fifteen members, and the registration fee is $225 per team. For more information, teams can contact Chyann Sammons at 361-218-8300 or Kristy Sertuche at 361-491-9797.

For more information on how to donate to or otherwise benefit the foundation itself, interested parties may contact Kristy Sertuche. The News-View staff would like to thank the members and benefactors of the foundation for all they do in providing an opportunity for a bright future to the youth of DeWitt County.
