Local boy in stable condition after near drowning
A 10-year-old is in stable condition in a San Antonio hospital following a near drowning at his home Thursday night, June 29.
Sheriff Carl Bowen reported the family was enjoying a barbecue at their home in the 900 block of Verhelle Road, south of Cuero. The boy was playing in an above ground pool when the accident occurred.
Contacting emergency services, the parents began resuscitating the child. State DPS troopers assisted in the reviving the child and Cuero Regional Hospital Methodist Aircare 6 flew the youngster to University Hospital in San Antonio.
The incident was reported around 9 p.m. and Friday morning the child was reported in stable condition according to Sheriff Bowen.
Pastor Glen Moore of Lifeway Baptist Church in Cuero has been spending time with the family and posting to the church’s Facebook page on the progression of the child.
As of Sunday afternoon, a feeding tube was put in, and they are giving him nourishment while his breathing tube is in place, per Lifeway’s Facebook page.
“He looks a lot better than he did before, and he was able to squeeze his mothers hand in response to her questions,” Moore stated in the Facebook post from Sunday.
A lot of rest is still needed during the recovery process, but the doctors have become more upbeat over the past couple days.
“Everyone is amazed at how fast this little boy has begun to heal,” Moore said in the post.
