Just after lunch on Tuesday, July 10, a wreck near the eastern edge of Yorktown led to a short detour for traffic on State Highway 72.

According to the driver of the big rig, east bound traffic had come to a stop behind another large truck as it prepared to turn left. With the tanker truck at a full stop, an east bound newer-model Ford pickup slammed into the back of the tanker at full speed. Yorktown EMS Volunteer Lexi Weaver and Justice of the Peace Pct. 2 Blanca McBride happened to be traveling westbound moments after the impact and were able to assist the man from the pickup and to begin assesstment of his medical state.

The driver, though displaying several bumps and bruises, did not appear to have life threatening injuries and was transported by Yorktown EMS for a more thorough medical examination. During the removal of the vehicle from the scene, tow truck operators had to pry parts of the pickup loose in order to seperate the vehicles.

Yorktown Volunteer EMS, DeWitt County Sheriff’s Deputies, and Texas DPS Troopers responded to the scene.
