Yorktown FFA holds banquet
By Roger Cowan
This past Thursday, the Yorktown FFA held its annual banquet in the YISD cafeteria. With roughly 100 guests and members in attendance, it certainly proved a successful evening.
The highlight of the night was a presentation of a special FFA plaque to the family of Mr. Leroy Ruppert in honor of his service and dedication to the community, FFA, and his family.
Dinner was provided by Michael Alvarez’s American BBQ and Catering of Yorktown and consisted of texas-sized cuts of pork, potatoes and green beans. Tea and cobbler rounded out the plates.
During the evening, the outgoing officers presented the incoming officers. President Jerome Gwodz handed over his gavel to 2018-19 President and sister Katy Gwodz. Vice President Greshen Allman will pass the duties along to Katie Hughes. Secretary Jessica Garcia and Treasurer Chance Kaiser pass on their responsibilities to Brittan Allman and Alexis Alvarez respectively. This year’s Sentinel and next year’s President Katy Gwodz leave the office of Sentinel in the capable hands of Devin Leister. Connor Hethcoat, the Student Advisor, will leave his office in the trusty stead of Dylan Yeoman.
The closing ceremonies for the evening were handled by the newly installed 2018-19 officers, who proved themselves more than capable of carrying on the fine tradition of the previous generations of Yorktown FFA members.
