108th meeting between DeWitt County rivals

Following two weeks of chaos brought on by Hurricane Harvey and its aftermath, Cuero will open its 2017 season against their longtime DeWitt County rival: the Yoakum Bulldogs. The Gobblers will host this season’s tilt Friday night at 7:30 after prevailing last season in Yoakum, 14-7.
Filled with offensive weapons on both sides, it was defense which set the tone in the 2016 contest. Cuero held Yoakum to 152 yards in the win, cemented by Tre Miles’ late interception. Along with Miles, defensive end Caeveon Patton and Phil Taylor were stalwarts for the Gobblers, holding the Bulldogs high-powered offense at bay.
