Big plays lead to big win for Gobblers

By Jacob Cuellar

The last game ended with a devasting loss for the Gobblers when Navarro won it with a field goal in the last few seconds. This week, however, Cuero was ready to redeem themselves in the homecoming game against the Somerset Bulldogs who were 4-0 until the Gobblers gave them their first loss of the season.

Leaving the score 41-13, Cuero is back on track toward their goal of obtaining another state championship.

Helping the Gobblers get the win against Somerset High school was looking back on what needed to be improved on from the Navarro game. One focus point to the Gobblers was to play more physically than in the last game. “We wanted to be more physical, we wanted to play fast, and we wanted to finish blocks.” This was stated by assistant athletic director Adam Arroyo.

Cuero made a big return to start the night. Continuing to make big plays on both sides of the ball, the team controlled this game until the end. While they can certainly run the ball, The Cuero Gobblers excel in the passing game. Senior quarterback Jerry Rossett and his wide receivers make throwing the ball downfield for big gains look easy. They ended the night with 5 touchdowns receptions.

“We came out fast we played hard. They aren’t a bad ball club. They were 4-0 undefeated. We knew we had to contain we had to play people and cover people because they throw the ball a lot and I think we played well up front on both sides of the ball which helped us get that W.”
